The light snow blanketing the path glistened as we walked. In the woods, on that path, my heart palpitated quickly-unsure but hopeful. Our hands brushed and my eyes darted up to his. Seemingly clueless, he looked back at me and smiled sweetly. We kept walking. The second time, the back of his hand lingered against mine a little longer. Suddenly, I felt his cool palm press into mine, our fingers intertwining. He looked down at his shoes, embarrassed? My cheeks began to flush. I believed it to be from the cold. A mist of tiny snowflakes began to fall. The chill made him grip my hand tighter. I felt safe. We walked and I felt safe.

And I would continue to feel safe for the rest of my life.
