The SamCait shippers remind me of the extreme Johnlockers. They were told numerous times by everyone involved in Sherlock that Johnlock wasn't going to happen, and yet they threw a fit when season 4 ended. For some reasons, they refuse to admit that their ship isn't going to happen. If their goal is to drive Sam and Cait out of social media, they just might achieve it.

Interesting to hear about the Johnlockers. I think at a certain point shipping can become like a “team sport,” with fans being so invested in their ship “winning” that they don’t even realize when the game is over.
Fortunately, the Johnlocks were only shipping fictional characters. The SamCait extreme shippers have been shipping real human beings. They have created absurd conspiracy theories to explain away the huge amount of evidence against their ship and collected ambiguous “receipts” (most of which have been debunked) as proof that their ship is “real.” And when the ship takes on water (as it always does, since it isn’t real) they get furious with Sam and Cait, their SOs and anyone else who gets in the way of their ship “winning.”
At this point the fandom is tired of their destructive antics. It appears that Cait and Tony were wed in a Roman Catholic ceremony. It doesn’t get more real than that. However, I just don’t know if some of them can let go of the “game” at this point and admit defeat.
