I started watching Doctor Who in 2013. I’d been aware of it for a few years before that but I never really knew exactly what it was. I remember being on YouTube and seeing videos titled Amy&Eleven or Rose&Ten and I remember wondering why these people had numbers for names, lol.
I tried watching Doctor Who online first but I couldn’t find a site where the episodes would load so I gave up trying. I collect TV series on DVD so I looked into buying the seasons to watch but they were crazy expensive so again I didn’t bother.
It wasn’t until last year when I found them on sale by chance and I decided to buy the first 4 or 5 seasons. They sat on my shelf for a couple months because of university and working but one weekend when I was free I thought to myself “oh hey, I’ll watch that show.”
I started with ‘Rose’ and I fell in love instantly! Christopher Eccleston won me over with his goofy grin, large ears, leather jacket, and deep soulful eyes. I loved Rose for the sweet, down to earth, everyday girl that she was. And I fell in love with their chemistry and the way they teased, laughed, cried, and loved. From the moment the Doctor grabbed her hand and said run I was hooked on this wacky, unbelievable, funny, heartbreaking, and epic journey through time and space.
I’ve laughed, I’ve screamed, I’ve cried. I’ve grieved each Doctor after he regenerated and fallen in love with each new Doctor. I sobbed over the loss of each companion and laughed uncontrollably at the introduction of the next.
My advice to new Whovians: This is going to hurt. You are going to cry as you fall in love with and then lose each Doctor and companion but you are also going to love the next one more than you ever thought you could or would. There are going to be episode that absolutely devastate you and there are going to be the ones where you can’t stop laughing and there are going to be the episodes that are just really friggin cool! This show is absolutely the best thing that I have ever watched and I’ve never once regretted it!
