I will not go gentle into this Long Night
When I first read the leaks (considerably later than most of you here) I was, understandably, devastated. Each new spoiler that emerged seemed to only fuel the disappointment we all were feeling. Looking back now, with the perspective of time and logic (and some mind-blowing meta), I can honestly say that in my short time in this fandom, there has never been an episode of GoT that Iāve looked forward to more than tonightās. Before you write me off as delusional and unfollow me, let me explain:
If Iām going to have to watch a pairing for the rest of GoT, I want to like it. I want them to SELL it to me. Make me pine for it. Show me all the heart-wrenching angst and lingering glances. Sound like something we know? As ardently as I ship Jonsa, from the moment Jon left to Dragonstone, I was completely expecting all this to show up on my screen with the long-anticipated meeting (finally!) of the two āprotagonistsā. The oneās theyāre trying to sell as Ice and Fire. Nope. That was not to be. Instead we get heart-eyes and āIāve grown used to youā on one side and complete disinterest on the other. Jon is not at all opening up to her. He doesnāt share any personal details with her, nothing. Tbh, most of the time, he looks like heād rather be elsewhere (*ahem* Winterfell *ahem*). Major kudos to Kit for all that. Iām telling you people, that man knows things.
Anyway, TL;DR, if I were a Jon3rys shipper who was eagerly anticipating this encounter for the past 6+ seasons, Iād be sorely disappointed. As, in fact, many are. Ā
Soā¦tonightā¦
We know whatās going to happen. Itās coming. What we donāt know is the WHY of it. Are we to believe that these two will suddenly succumb to the lust that has been quietly simmering under the surface? Hardly. And thatās what Iām most eager to find out. Because if we know Jon, and we do know Jon, no matter what seeming character assassination he has been forced to endure, we know this this is not a man who Ā will act ājust becauseā. There has to be a VERY good reason. Of course, my delusional self has a couple of ideas exactly what that reason might be, but for now, sheāll keep that to herself.
And thatās why Iāll be watching tonight.
The Long Night is almost upon us, and it is dark and full of terrors. But a time for wolves will soon dawn, so keep the faith, sweet shipsters. Jonsa is endgame. It is known.
