Bonus Amanda under cut….
After rewatching the early Saw movies, I’m lowkey flabbergasted at the drop in IQ with the test subjects going from Saw 1 to Saw 2.
In the first movie, you had Adam and Dr. Gordon actually being clever with making their way through the game. Adam came up with the idea of using the drainage plug to reach the tape recorder while Gordon caught the “follow your heart” hidden message and came up with the plan to have Adam fake his death.
But then you have the second movie where:
1) Gus looked through the eyehole for no reason and got his head blown off. I mean, a gunshot into the room is gonna be dangerous regardless, but this man decided to just look through an eyehole in a room he was placed in by a deranged madman. Why did he even do that, there was no reason to look through the eyehole outside of just being weirdly curious.
2) Obi pulled the third syringe down without somehow feeling that it was connected to a heavy chain. Also, this is after Gus died, so the team should’ve been more cautious about the rules that Jigsaw is laying out. John specifically said TWO syringes so the fact that Obi saw a third syringe and didn’t go, “Hey, this is kinda sus” is just…why?
3) Instead of using literally any of the items in the surrounding area of the syringe room, Xavier just tosses Amanda into the pit.
4) While we can somewhat excuse Addison for not thinking clearly due to the sarin gas exposure, it doesn’t change the fact that the glass box trap literally had a padlock that the survivors could’ve easily unlocked. Also, after witnessing all the horrors in the other rooms, she just stuck her hands into a suspicious looking box without analyzing the trap first.
5) Xavier in general. The man did not make a single, intelligent decision in the entire movie.
6) Oh, and of course, Eric Matthews. His test was literally just to sit there and talk to Jigsaw. While he’s obviously under a lot of stress, he knows who Jigsaw is. It’s not like he’s entering this case as a brand new detective. And even if he was new, Kerry the Jigsaw expert is right there. There’s no excuse for Eric not knowing how Jigsaw works and what happens to people who don’t follow his rules.
All the brain cells for the Saw 2 test subjects belonged to Daniel, especially since he came in clutch with remembering who had the key to the basement door.
(Just to briefly address Saw III, I’m gonna let Jeff go on this point since his traps weren’t really about problem solving. They were obviously more about the emotional aspect, so his traps were straightforward. And then you have Lynn who just had to do what she does for work. Saw II survivors though…yeah, they definitely failed their perception and intelligence checks)
