Our golden trios in their different adaptations ❤️
finally got around to watching the percy jackson musical a few days ago because my boyfriend’s little sister played annabeth (she was AMAZING btw) and it made me realize something:
during annabeth’s solo (“my grand plan”), she sings that her grand plan is to be remembered. that it’s literally all she wants, especially since athena seems so determined to forget she even exists (eg. zero contact ever since she made it to camp, literally giving her a hat of INVISIBILITY, etc.).
but now remind me again of the ONE thing percy is certain of when he gets his mind wiped in SON?
that’s right: annabeth.
obsessed with gover fulfilling his musical persona vibes in episode 3 with that consensus song
When I first saw (watched online, not live because I’m broke) the performance of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical I was skeptical about the appearance of George Salazar when I first heard his voice. I’d heard good things ‘bout the musical but I thought, “Is he really Grover?” Because he didn’t sound like Grover to me.
Then I heard him sing and act and perform! And then I thought, “Shit, he’s Grover!”
Then the casting change happened and I saw Jorrel Javier take the stage (again, metaphorically because I still can’t afford shit) as Grover. This time I held out with a curious, optimistic look along the lines of, “Let’s see how this Grover sounds!”
And he did great as well.
Did any of the actors of the musical match the descriptions of what Rick put on the pages of PJO? No. But they still made it feel like we were watching Percy, Annabeth, and Grover live. We still treasure and listen to those songs like it’s a canon theme song. We act as though the songs were soundtracks to our PJO hyper fixations.
Leah Sava Jeffries is gonna be Annabeth. Just like how Walker Scobell is gonna be Percy and how Aryan Simhardi is gonna be Grover. Uncle Rick sat down and watched these kids perform. We sat down and watched these castings get announced. The only thing we have in common with Rick here is that we all love PJO.
We love it enough to want accuracy but also to remember the amount of representation Rick brought to life with nearly every character with each page. We love it enough that we knew it was in good hands when it was announced Rick was overseeing this filming process to the letter. We love it and so does Rick.
So let’s sit and wait. Please.
And for Hades’ sake, leave the damn kids alone.
