My 3 Biggest Takeaways from The Thursday Murder Club
So I watched The Thursday Murder Club this past Monday at my folks' house for the Labor Day holiday, and here are my 3 main takeaways from the film that I hope gets a sequel very soon.
If I have to live in a retirement home when I'm older, can it be this one? I mean, wow! I know they said the Coopers Chase building was a renovated convent, but those individual suites were bigger than some people's houses. And the common areas were just as spectacular. I'm not too keen on living in a retirement community, but if I had to live in one, it would be this one.
The cast in this film was a treat in every way. You not only got the core four members of the TMC, played by Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, and Pierce Brosnan, but the supporting cast were equally amazing as well. Even in small roles with not-so-many lines or only one scene in which to steal the show, the entire cast was a carousel of awesome. You have David Tennant (as a bad guy no less), Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, and Joseph Marcell. I was both delighted and pleasantly surprised to see so many of the actors I've grown to adore over the years show up in one project.
Can we take a moment to appreciate how great of an idea it was to cast Tom Ellis as Pierce Brosnan's son? Red Ron was my favorite of the core four cast members, and not just because I grew up watching Brosnan on Remington Steele. I genuinely like Ron's character and his back story. Then, you add Tom as his son, Jason, who has so much in common with his old man. Their relationship felt equal parts realistic and heartwarming. So the fact that Tom looks like he could almost pass for Pierce's kid makes it even more enjoyable.

Charles Shaughnessy - (The Nanny, Days of Our Lives (1984 - 2004)) - Maxwell Sheffield was the definition of a sophisticated, debonair English gentleman to me when I was a kid, and the romantic chemistry between Maxwell and Fran is the heart of the show. I still think Mr. Sheffield is the hottest sitcom dad of all time.
Joseph Marcell - (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - straight up just think hes extremely handsome and his unmatched ability to deliver normal lines in the bitchiest way possible. chefs kiss. his stage background ABSOLUTELY shines.
