(you can answer this on private if you want) I honestly hate that "mages are strong and fast" post too, literally the first thing I did after reading it was blocking it bc I hated the way it came across all high uppity and looked down on those who preferred being warriors. Like... have they played a warrior at all? Bc as much as I enjoy playing as a mage, warrior's still my favourite class bc you can go charging in head first and know you're not gonna die?? still one of the best things I've done, and probably one of my favourite playthroughs. Sure, mages and rogues have their merits, but I've always done a warrior for my first playthrough because I like being in the thick of it and being able to carry a team, and GOD I love it.
I don’t really have anything else smart to add, because I feel exactly the same way, down to having blocked the post tbh. :) I can go on and on about the narrative reasons that make me enjoy playing a character without special powers (be it magic or biotics), but yeah, at the end of the day, to me what makes these games so much fun is that feeling of running head-first into the fray, and knowing that I’m pulling my weight and keeping the others safe.
In Origins I actually prefer Berserker -mostly because I felt it fit my dwarven princess to have been trained by legendary dwarven warriors- but man, in DA2, it’s so much fun to play as a two-handed warrior. I know people are usually all about a mage Hawke, but come on, running up to a cluster of enemies and watching them all fall under one Whirlwind, tanking that wyvern in Mark of the Assassin without breaking a sweat, or stabbing Corypheus in the kneecaps and watching him fall in Legacy? Easily the most fun I’ve had yet.
... The close second is that time I beat Vinsomer at level 16 with Ray alone after she took out the rest of my team in like ten seconds, but that was a hell of a hard birth. Took about an hour, but there is a hell of a rush in watching that huge claw bounce off your shield. <3
Guys. I love warriors. So much. No wonder I’ve an all-warrior canon and a Soldier Shepard, I’m a meathead, I just don’t have the body for it anymore.
