being in a field where objectivity is key/one of the most important things, i've accidentally come to expect it in other aspects of life. this is leaving me unsatisfied. and angry :o like if see a movie review online and it's like "this actor was terrible for this role" i'm like hold up why are you giving readers your opinion oh wait this is a movie review that's ok. i have to consciously remind myself oh god what happened
i’m just okay at doing interviews. afterwards i always feel like i didn’t think fast enough, i should have asked better questions, i didn’t take a question far enough, i missed obvious opportunities. but the part i love most in the journalistic process is when, after you’ve hunted and gathered all the information, you fit it all together and find the common threads between the interviews, figure out how things relate and what the individual statements mean in a larger context. i think through writing, and journalism is that but discovering the present, piecing everything together for a meaning that makes sense.
