The last session I led, I made the main issue be that fae had stolen a library’s anthology of cook books and the party needed to make a recipe to lure out the fae to haggle for the books back

20. Any advice for young writers/advice you wish someone would have given you early on?

your writing is GOING to suck. it will. don’t worry about it. you’re going to get to a point where it feels like everything y ou write sucks ass and not in the fun way and you will look at it and say “howmst the FUCK am i supposed to fix this????” and it will suck and maybe you’ll finish it and maybe you won’t but its still something you’ve written. That’s what secondary and tertiary drafts are for. The first draft doesn’t have to be perfect.

i’m not a professional author by any means - i write fanfic! i’ve posted for the internet to see the “baby’s first fanfic” and over a decade later i think its terrible, what was i thinking! but I still wrote it so it has a fondness in my heart. I’ve got stuff from 5 years ago that i’m like “wow this is actually okay” and stuff from last week that i hate.

your writing skills grow and plateau and then you’ll hit a point where it starts to grow again.

i’m paraphrasing from a post about artistry but i’ve found you hit a point where you look at your work and you can’t see how to fix it because you have the skill to see where you’re bad but not the skill yet to see how to fix it. that's okay.

30. Do you like to read books similar to your project while you’re drafting or do you stick to non-fiction/un-similar works?

Sometimes! It's usually unrelated though. If I’m reading anything nonfiction I do like to incorporate some of what I’ve learned.

I spent too many goddamn years learning physics and general history and greco-roman history specifically to NOT use it

Hilariously, none of the books i’m reading right now have anything to do with piracy.

I love to share my rough drafts. I’ve actually several up on my Tumblr right now. Its mostly just scenes from various fics I’m working on, though I do post chapters of my wips. I crave that sweet sweet validation. I do have a couple things that won’t get seen ‘til they’re done tho which is fine
