Iron weed (Vernonia fasciculata), Big-leaf aster (Aster macrophyllus), Jumpseed (Persicaria virginiana), and Drooping prairie coneflower (Ratibida pinnata). All native to NJ except for the Drooping prairie coneflower; that’s more native to the southeast and midwest states.

The large, velvety leaves of Persicaria virginiana 'Brushstrokes' (jumpseed, Virginia knotweed) each one appears to be brushed with a central 'v' of deep red. Though grown for the foliage this herbaceous perennial also has tiny red blooms late into November. This cultivar is more compact than others.

Persicaria viginiana

Part of the buckwheat family, it's named for hits habit of shooting off seeds when pods are disturbed. It's native to eastern North America. Grows in shade (Wikipedia)
