it rarely ends.
i sit quietly with only the sound of my soul weeping an internal sadness. i’m breaking beneath this smile, dying in the silence of my own heartache. where do tears go when they’re not visible? where does the strength go when the heart feels weak? i’d speak but i can’t find the words. i want to scream but i can’t find my voice.

a note echoed through the walls of an empty hallway. another soon followed as the first faded out. and within a few moments of silence, the clouds broke apart.
“hey, that hand you’re holding onto is mine.”
“since when did i became your property?”
“would you hate that?”
his confident smile, the warmth in his gaze, and even the gentleness of his touch was unfair. how could he be so lovable?
your fingers traced the pearl white keys as if they were reading the words your soul was begging to let out. if words were not enough, would they lend you their strength instead?
“here’s your takoyaki! it’s hot so—”
“ouch!”
“didn’t i just said it was hot? idiot, let me see.”
“maybe if you give it a kiss it’ll get better~”
his silly smirk, playful gaze and even the faint trace of pink on his ears was oh so cute. how could you not give in to his temptation?
a note. another of a lower pitch and once more of the same note. they were hesitant and uneasy at first. the sound of rain pattering in the background were slowly drowning out your thoughts almost like a blanket of comfort, and before you know it the first drop of tear fell.
“good game!”
“it could’ve been better though.”
“but you did your best right? that’s more than enough to be considered a good one!”
“thank you.”
his hair that ruffled your cheeks, arms that rest around your hips, and even the faint words of gratitude he murmured against the crook of your neck filled your heart with warmth. how could he take over your heart so easily like this?
you wondered if it was foolish of you. they say love would turn you a fool if you loved too deeply. they say love would hurt, and it did. the pain of separation, the pain of losing a part of yourself when you let him in, you never could have thought it would happen.
notes were soaring through the music room as your fingers danced across the monochrome keys—desperate to cry out.
“what?”
“i’m sorry.”
“i...did i do something wrong? why—why are you—”
“i’m sorry...”
“no, stop apologizing. what’s wrong? tell me or i won’t understand.”
“thank you for the three years in this high school. i was really happy when i was with you, but it’s time to wake up from this dream.”
the tip of his head as he bowed, the trembling fist you could barely notice behind his back, and even the genuine smile that graced upon his lips were weighing your heart down. could this be the end?
as your fingers lifted off the piano, the sound of hands clapping got you startled back at the sudden presence behind you.
“that was so moving, y/n-sensei! could you please play it again?”
“what if i don’t want it to end?”
“then i will forget everything that we once had. wouldn’t that be the end then?”
