You never asked Junhoe for anything too crazy. Therefore, you expected him to be totally on board for the favor you were about to ask him. He was at your apartment, the usual for a rainy Sunday.
It was your idea of the perfect time to ask him to pretend to be your boyfriend for your best friend’s wedding. Your ex-boyfriend just had to be there and you didn’t want to look like you hadn’t moved on from him, which you had. So, in order to make it clear that you were over him, you planned to have Junhoe be your boyfriend for the night.
“Hey, can I ask you for a favor?” You questioned, slightly nervous. He nodded, not paying much attention to what you were about to say. “Will you be my date for Wendy’s wedding? And uh- you know, kind of pretend to be my boyfriend?” “What?” He asked, raising his eyebrows out of curiosity. You chewed on your bottom lip out of nervousness. “Be your boyfriend?”
“Well, just pretend, really. My ex-boyfriend is gonna be there and I really don’t want to look like I haven’t moved on.”
“And have you?” Junhoe questioned.
“Of course I have, idiot. I just haven’t dated...” You were starting to regret asking in the first place once he started laughing. You huffed out of frustration and crossed your arms over your chest. “A simple ‘no’ would’ve been fine...”
“No, no. I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just- well- are you sure you’re over him?” He began laughing again and you stood there, tight-lipped. He finally stopped, a smile breaking out on his face. “I’m just kidding, I’ll do it. My best friend is gonna have the hottest date there.” The corner of his lip tugged up into a smug smirk.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” You couldn’t say that you didn’t agree with him, though.
The wedding was in a couple of hours when it finally sunk in; Junhoe and you had to show some kind of skinship. Both of you had practiced exactly what you were gonna say when people questioned your relationship.
Junhoe had been a friend of your close friend, Hanbin. Hanbin set you two up and the rest was history. You had only been dating for five months, meaning that you had a boyfriend a mere two months after the breakup with your ex. Since Junhoe was your best friend, he knew everything about you. People asking questions about you would be the least of his problems.
Skinship, however, would have to seem real. The closest thing to couple skinship that you two could master was hugging. In the end, both of you agreed to let the skinship come naturally.
“Are you ready yet?” Junhoe yelled from the living room of your apartment. You grumbled, fastening your necklace before checking your makeup one more time. You sauntered out of your bedroom and into the living room where Junhoe was waiting. His back was toward you but once he heard the clicking of your heels, he turned.
“Yes, I’m ready.” You rolled your eyes, smoothing down your dress once more.
“Wow.” His eyes widened in amazement at how good you looked.”You uh- you look good.”
You gracefully pulled off a silky maroon dress, and Junhoe couldn’t help but stare. The way the dress perfectly hugged your figure, every inch of your body being complimented by the impressive choice of attire.
“Thanks.” Your quiet voice whispered. He chuckled, leading you outside to the car.
You two arrived at the dining hall in time for the wedding reception. Since you weren’t a bridesmaid and you lived far from where the wedding took place, both of you opted to come to the reception instead of the ceremony.
The hall was huge, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and flowers lining the walls of the circular room. The dance floor was set up in the center of the room, couples dancing to any song that the DJ played.
“Well well well, if it isn’t Y/N and her new boyfriend!” Wendy exclaimed joyously, and a bit too loudly. Your ex-boyfriend, Mino, turned his head curiously to look at you.
You roll your eyes and pull her and her husband into a hug. “Congratulations, you two.”
“You’ll be next!” Wendy joked, laughing. Both you and Junhoe froze, before quickly laughing it off. He gently tugged your hand and pulled you into the side of his chest, slinging an arm over your shoulder. “Aw, when did you lovebirds start dating?”
“Five months ago.” Junhoe smiled so happily that it could’ve been genuine if you hadn’t known that it was all fake.
“Ah, I’m so happy for you Y/N. You got a handsome one.” Wendy winked over at you, making you chuckle to yourself. “Well, you’re seated at Table 8, right by the window. “
You two sat down and coincidentally, Mino was seated at the same table. You took note of his gorgeous date, her bubbly attitude, and polite manners. He nodded over at you awkwardly and you mimicked his action, taking your seat next to Junhoe. The two of you were silent while eating although everyone else at the table was conversing.
As Mino and his date stood up to head to the dance floor, Junhoe felt a surge of competition rush through him.
“Come on, let’s dance.” He laced your fingers together and led you to the dance floor. A slow, romantic song began playing and you almost screamed out of embarrassment that you were too nervous to dance properly.
Junhoe pulled you closer to him, staring into your eyes like a real, loving boyfriend would. Your head dipped down to lean on his shoulder, both of you swaying to the beat of the music. You sneakily peered over his shoulder to find Mino staring at you, doing the same thing to his date. As soon as your eyes met, you felt Junhoe gently pull his hands away from yours before placing them on your waist.
Your whole body tensed up at his actions which Junhoe laughed at.
“Act natural,” He whispered into your ear, now fixing his hands around your waist with confidence. You drew in a shaky breath, draping your arms around his neck. His gaze never left your eyes, continuing to stare at you as if he were in love with you.
“Why are you so good at this?” You mumbled the question as the song changed to one with a slightly quicker tempo.
“At pretending?” You nodded and he sighed.
“Because this is what I would do if you were mine,” He murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. Because of your closeness, you still heard him. Your stare lifted to meet his, a surprised expression on your face. “Was that cheesy?”
You shook your head, delicately grabbing the nape of his neck. “Kiss me.”
“Are you sure?” He asked, not certain if that was a good idea or not. You nodded and he finally built up the confidence to press his lips against yours.
For what seemed like hours, everything was still. The only thing that you two were focused on was each other. Finally, he pulled away before looking over his shoulder to see an appalled Mino. He turned back to you, smiling widely.
“I think we acted natural enough.”
