The Scold's Bridle (Full TV Miniseries) 1998

Mathilda Gillespie, an eccentric recluse known for her incredible meanness of nature, is found dead in her bathtub, her wrists slashed and her head locked inside a so-called 'scold's bridle', a rusted cage built with tongue clamps which was used as a torture device throughout the middle ages. The dead woman's only friend, Dr. Sarah Blakeney, becomes the prime suspect in her murder after police discover that she's been left a great deal of money in the will. To clear her name, Sarah delves deep into Mathilda's mysterious past, and subsequently unravels an intricate web of greed, abuse and depravity. Adapted for television by the BBC. Junior Campbell led Marmalade through a string of hits, both covers and originals. For a time, the band rivaled the Tremeloes for tasteful harmonic pop. However, don't overlook their early recordings which fell more in line with heavier pop psych (I See The Rain etc.). When Junior started his solo career, Elton John was cranking out funkier pop and Junior found a new groove with hits like Sweet Illusion and Hallelujah Freedom, releasing Second Time Around, a full length LP in 1974. After two non-hit singles on Elton John's Private Stock (both A's and B's included here), Junior did a batch of studio demos - 12 are included here - which move back toward pop and should have helped him get another shot at the charts. They did not. Fortunately Junior found new fame as a composer of music and songs for Thomas The Tank Engine, a British children's show that achieved global success and eventually a couple of feature length adventures.

i've just heard the incredibly upsetting news that this beautiful soul has passed away, & now i just feel very numb..

dean ford was lead singer with scottish pop/rock group, marmalade, & is one of my very favourite singers/front men.

i've loved the marmalade since i was a young teen, & especially wee dean, as i had a huge crush on him.

i remember discovering this song & playing it over & over. there's an old vhs copy of him performing it on 70s music show, supersonic, that i must dig out to reminisce..

back in 2011, i was lucky enough to be able to meet junior campbell, dean's songwriting partner in the marmalade. i'm only gutted i'll never get the chance to meet dean ford now. he seemed like such a lovely guy, & i'll never get the chance to let him know what his music means to me.
