Boomslangs! Aka “Dispholidus Typus”.

Liddol guys! Look at their faces! What do you MEAN this cutie could kill me by making me essentially turn into a blood fountain, I don’t believe it. Maybe it’s worth it. They’re so beautiful too.
They’re colubrids (so the same family as kingsnakes, cornsnakes, hognoses etc), and while most colubrids aren’t venomous, there’s a few that absolutely are, and fewer still that can kill you. This particular snake has venom that’s a hemotoxin, meaning it causes just TONS of micro clots, which then makes it so that you can’t clot anymore and you hemorrhage and can start bleeding out of eyes, gums, etc. And it only takes a small amount of venom to be fatal to a fully grown human! Fortunately, all they want is to be left tf alone and biting is a last defence when they’re being harassed.

Look I tried to find pictures where they don’t look like an affronted shoelace but they just do. I love most cobras but look at their face. They’re like bro. Can I fucking HELP you. 100% is supported by the fact that they’re sketchy as fuck, if you look at them wrong they’re like you know what buddy, I’m gonna spit my venom at your eyeballs.
They’re elipads* that are indigenous to the Philippines, and despite being skeeved out by humans they like hanging around places like rice fields because it’s where things like rats like hanging out. Their venom causes a delightful number of effects like paralysis, respiratory distress, and necrosis if bitten, and if you’re unfortunate enough to get it in your eyes after being spat at, it can cause blindness as it wrecks your eyeball tissue. Fun!

Bush vipers!

I can’t even choose a subtype. They’re legitimately one of my absolute favourite types of snake. I would kill I would DIE to be in the presence of one. They’re mini dragons! Mini extremely venomous dragons!
They’re from the viperidae family, which contain over 200 types of viper. Like the elapidae family, they’ve got fangs at the front and venom glands stored in their heads. Viperidae fangs are foldable back in their mouth rather than constantly having them locked to the front like elapidae, and viperidae fangs are longer, and there’s differences in the types of venom they have too. They also have one lung!
Bonus: gaboon viper. What is this. Ridiculous animal. He is TRUNDLING. Chugga chugga of death.
may i ask for your opinion(s) on marbled gecks and slatey-grey snakes?
slates are one of ~10 australian colubrids, and marbed geckoes.. marbles are EVERYWHERE. wood piles, rocks, behind picture frames, everywhere you look, there's a geck...

10/10 based on looks alone. This man is just here for a good time. They come in lots of cool colours too!
Looking into their care it seems like on the surface they’re pretty easy to take care of but I’d absolutely have to look further into it, because google is terrible for care stuff.
Slaty grey snakes
See this is the reason I wouldn’t be able to live in Australia, because I’d just want to walk up to every snake I see and kiss them directly on the face. Look at it.
I love how one page I looked at called them “inoffensive” and in the next breath was like “this snake will bite you and musk all over you if you disturb it” which yeah sums up most colubrids pretty well 😩

I saw your post about racks and I'm genuinely curious what's your opinion on Snake Discovery?? Cause I've heard ppl say they do racks properly but it still feels somewhat wrong to me, but I'm fairly new in the hobby so idk what are your thoughts??

I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched snake discovery, but I do know that @is-the-snake-video-cute has brought up a lot of excellent points about them before and their care. I’ve mentally slotted them into the same category as Jay’s Prehistoric and Brian Barczyk so I’m thinking that I don’t like their care.
At the end of the day, rack systems don’t allow for the space for a snake to thrive in. There’s no way to do racks properly, in my opinion and in the opinion of many people who keep and who fight tooth and nail against improper care of reptiles and other “unusual” animals.

Is it just me, or are the racks some breeders keep their giant snakes in such as boas and burmese pythons completely unacceptable? I mean, I saw some dude keeping a 16 foot burmese in an 8 foot long enclosure, that just feels a little messed up to me, snakes should mean something when we keep them rather than a tool for profit, also when some people have too many snakes to handle each one on a good schedule boils my blood. Tell me, am I being unreasonable?
Nah, you’re not being unreasonable at all.
We cannot stand rack keepers. I understand when they’re hatchlings, just about, but to keep them in what are essentially drawers long term is negligent and cruel at best. I’ve known people to keep their dwarf retics in drawers too. Disgusting behavior, and it’s something we feel very strongly about.
Did you know rack keeping causes brain deterioration in snakes? Cause it does!
Anyway, yeah. You’re not being unreasonable. Rack keeping for anything long term is unacceptable, outdated and negligent keeping. You’re 10000% right and you should say it.
