Rami Appreciation Week Day One!
I have a bunch of favorite Rami quotes that I love for various reasons, but I’m really feeling this one right now. 🥺🥰💯
Team Free Will, 3.0
Last night on Supernatural was the end.
The end of an era. The end of a journey. And honestly, the end of our pain.
No more pain. No more suffering.
We, the Fandom, are Free.
Because from now on we get to choose. Team Free Will 3.0. The Fandom. We get to say how the story ends. How the characters are written, how the battles are won. We get to pick our plot pain, and match it with joy, love and happily ever after (or not, to each their own) instead of dealing with the pain of bad-writing, plot holes and character regression. We get to decide who is important, who gets their time in the sun.
We can pick and choose whatever fills us up and makes us whole and happy. We get to grapple with the hard issues, the raw emotions and work through to resolve them in ways that are meaningful and healing.
Because being a part of the #SPNFamily is like no other fandom experience I have ever had. I have been in one fandom or another for over twenty years and not once I have I seen a fandom eclipse its canon so completely as to where the show itself becomes merely the context or the origin of something much larger than what it was meant to be.
I love Supernatural. But when I really think about what I love about it, it’s the people around me, experiencing this thing at my side. It’s my best friend, GISH co-captain and co-author @spandwiches who I never would have met without it. It’s the friends I’ve made at cons. It’s the friends I’ve made writing (you know who you are). It is the very act of writing that I love—something that Supernatural gave back to me after many years away. It is seeing the #ProfoundBond being expressed in millions of different settings and ways across the endless pages of AO3. We’re a prolific fandom—and an extremely talented bunch—there are 145 pages (and counting) of SPN fic on AO3 that was written in November.
For those of you who aren’t involved in other fandoms—you don’t realize how good we have it. There is so much quality fic and art for Supernatural that I will literally never get to all of it. Whatever kind of story you’re looking for. Whatever ending you want—whether it be angst, fluff or crackfic—it exists. We’ve got you. We have what you’re looking for. And odds are it’s going to be written well. And that’s fucking amazing.
And while sure, there are haters in every fandom including SPN, but overall we have created more good in the world than bad. We have supported each other through dark times, raised money for worthy causes, and come together in real and meaningful ways. We have created joy.
I am so grateful to have found SPN, to have this meaning in my life, to have all of you in my life. And therefore I am grateful for this show, despite its complete and utter failure to stick the landing.
I don’t think I will ever forgive them for this finale. For toying with us. For making Destiel canon #DestielIsCanon and then leaving it an unreciprocated, unresolved mess that is never mentioned again. For having all of that character growth and talk about how #FamilyDon’tEndWithBlood, only to not have any family around the brothers at the end. Or how they shoved plot holes aside as if the plots themselves never existed in the first place.
But that’s okay.
Because last night on Supernatural, it was the last night of a tv show, but certainly not the end of the fandom I adore and the family I have made. We will survive this. #AlwaysKeepFighting.
Or, as the @mixtapebookclub reminds me, the story only ends when we say it does.
That is all.
I don’t really feel good about tonight’s Manchester Derby.
