Any tips on starting a journal? It seems really fun.
It is super fun, though! You get to customize your pages and learn along the way about which works or doesn’t work for you. Ok, some tips :>
1. Ask yourself why you want to start a journal. It may look “cool” and everyone’s doing it, but specifically, singularly, why do you want to start one? Some use a journal to plan; some use it to reflect on their days. I for one keep a journal, because doing so helps me with my anxiety. Your reason/s for journaling will undoubtedly affect your journaling-related decisions.
2. Ready your supplies. Choosing which notebook to use is probably the biggest decision you’ll make. Your answer to #1 will play a huge factor. Do you travel a lot? If yes, maybe you’d consider a traveler’s notebook. Do you like want to be able to paint on the pages of your journal? Then consider getting > 110gsm paper. I can’t emphasize this enough: the notebook doesn’t have to be pricey. It just has to be the right size, weight, thickness, color, etc. for you. And always always consider the binding. Make sure that the binding will hold for a long time.

3. Begin. Just do. Stop waiting for the “right moment” to start. Don’t worry if it’s already May or September when you start your journal. Now is always perfect, because it’s the time you have. Some links that might help:

Oh, and don’t mind the mess you’ll make. Bad handwriting? No problem, as it’s legible to you. Literally have no sense of design? IT OK. Journals don’t have to be pretty; they just have to work for the journal owner (is ‘journaller’ a word?). Eventually, as in all tasks, you’ll find your own rhythm. It’s part of the fun and self-discovery. Good luck! <3
