So Roland is having a contest at the moment involving their Boutiques where you record yourself doing a little 60 second session that has to involve one of them in any shape or form. You can pair them up with any other sort of gear there just has to be at least one Boutique in there. So I decided to pair my JX-03 with my TR-505 for something a little bit different than the normal house/techno stuffs I make.
Thus, I present my silly little entry where I make some minimal synthwave.
Also I did record a longer version of this too. That’s gonna be uploaded soon.
(and yes technically I don’t need to upload this here since Roland only counts uploads to Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. But screw it the thing can be here too)

Aaand here be the full jam video! Which, as some might also have noticed, was recorded quite differently than before. Instead of using my webcam and USB-mixer like normal, I recorded the video with my phone and recorded the audio with a Tascam portable recorder. This way I can use my dining room table instead! Which... well I don’t use as a dining room table as you can tell, heh.
But yes, enjoy the full length progressive house/techno shenanigans I made today!
Technical Crapppp: The TR-8 is slaved to the JX-03 via MIDI, while the JX-03′s audio is being run through the external-in of the TR-8. Both of them are being recorded via the external-input of a Tascam DR-05 I also picked up a few weekends ago recorded as a .wav file. Which was then imported into Audacity, limited slightly, and that’s about it.

So that JX-03 I bought? Well part of me regrets it due to the car maintenance and that it could have been a couple hundred dollars I could have used for that. BUT most of me doesn’t regret it and finds it to be the most fun I’ve had toying with and learning how to mess with a synth in a loooongg-ass time. Seriously, this thing is amazing.
Also I managed to accidentally make 80′s SciFi synths. So go me y’all. Go me.
Sooo after ages of planning on doing so, I finally got my grubby paws on one of the Roland Boutiques! The JX-03 specifically, which is the one that is meant to replicate both the JX-3P synth and the PG-200 programmer (the original JX-3P didn't actually have all these knobs and controls on it, you had to buy a separate programmer unit called the PG-200 to properly edit the patches on the thing). I actually was originally planning on getting the JU-06 (the JUNO-106 one) instead, but I discovered that the JX-03 could pretty much do the same sort of sounds yet was also faaaarrr more capable. What with the actual JX-3P being a dual-oscillator synth with various waveforms and cross-modulation capabilities while the JUNOs were single-oscillator synths with very few waveforms to choose from. But yes, point is I now have an awesome mini-recreation of an awesome 80's polysynth. Yay!

Guess who decided to pair up his recently-purchased Roland JX-03 and his TR-8 together for some fun techno/progressive house-ey shenanigans? Ohhh yeah, this Husky did. Because goddamn is it fun to play with the JX-03, like I said before.
Also I’m doing this a little differently than normal! This is a little abridged version of the jam I just recorded today that I’m uploading straight to Tumblr without any links to my soundcloud or downloads like normal. Since, ya’ know, Tumblr decided it was a good idea to say “fuck you!” to anyone who posts anything with external links in it of any shape or form. Thanks Tumblr.
The full video and full Soundcloud-link will be posted soon. But until then, have a little fun with this abridged version!

Welp, this is not what I’ve usually been doing that’s for sure. Normally I keep pumping out random 90′s-inspired Techno/House but synthwave? Say it isn’tt so!
... ermm, well, yes it is. As I mentioned in that previous little video I made a simple jam for a contest Roland is hosting at the moment. And while that version was tiny and short, this is the longer version I kinda wanted to do more heh. So have some simple minimal synthwave courtesy of my Roland JX-03 and TR-505!
Nerdy Technicalities: The TR-505 is acting as the master clock with the JX-03 slaved to it via-MIDI. The 505 is then running through a Behringer RV600 Reverb Machine pedal to add that obligatory 80′s ‘assload-of-reverb-on-the-drums’. The 505 is then routed through the mix input of the JX-03 and both are recorded onto my Tascam DR-05. Amplify and limit in Audacity, and boom there we have it!
