Any post war Rebelcaptain headcanons/ pet parent Rebelcaptain headcanons?
- after the war, jyn and cassian both struggle to know what to really do with themselves — and so a life of quiet retirement really isn't in the cards. cassian stays on and transitions into new republic intelligence, while jyn has had enough of the chain of command, and works with an organization that helps people displaced by the war and works toward the recovery effort; a lot of her work, especially in the early years, is focused on kids who'd been orphaned/otherwise left behind.
- cassian is a stubborn bastard and keeps trying to take field assignments, but there comes a point, after a lot of stubbornness and fights and personal reflection, that he has to acknowledge he isn't as capable of this as he used to be, in large part because he's got chronic pain from his scarif injury and others, and his body just can't do it anymore. (not to mention, the mental toll of... everything.) eventually, he takes the promotion that mon mothma has been gently (forcefully) sending his way, and becomes a general, with a desk job.
- jyn loves what she does, except for the part where she has to speak to the senate every so often. people as a whole really like her there, and she's effective at appealing for resources! but boy she wants to gnash her teeth in. constantly. (chancellor mothma congratulates her personally each time she has to speak on the floor.)
- this is to say that, eventually, their lives stabilize, their life together stabilizes, even if they don't really have it in them to not be involved in things somehow. cassian cooks. jyn tries a lot of hobbies just because she finally has the luxury to. they tinker with droids and tech together in the shed out back behind the house. k2, who also of course lives with them, is not jealous of this, thank you.
- also they become the parents of at least four tooka cats, because jyn keeps bringing them home, and cassian makes a show of being like ".... okay", but he adores every single one just as much as, or maybe even more than, jyn does.
- anyway, it's a good life. they're both happy, well more than either could have ever imagined they'd be. it doesn't mean things are perfect, and it doesn't mean their traumas have magically disappeared, but this is the chance they fought for. it's good. and they have each other.
