“Ah…It seems you’ve got me outnumbered.”
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAEYA!!! 🦚🎂
I made a special art for my special, beautiful boy. I hope he will find peace and freedom in his own soul one day.
when kaeya was a kid his most exacerbated reaction to getting hurt was a very pointed "ow" and one tear at most. meanwhile when diluc got hurt he would wail and sob and sniffle around all day afterwards. and yknow what i think that their essence hasn't changed now that they're adults. kaeya who says "this doesn't.. look good.." when he dies in game and diluc who says "my flame.....has been..extinguished....." like okay. we still know who's the most dramatic out of the two
i'm putting this down here as a VERY VERY QUICK rundown of my version of kaeya so i can at least have people know what he's about.
Has merfolk heritage which results in scales on his neck, ankles and the wrist area. Along with some on his right eye that are hidden by his eyepatch. Those scales however, are the result of the wound of his fight with Diluc, and shortly after, he would leave Mondstat to make his own way in the world. Due to his merfolk heritage, he also has natural hydrokinesis.
Unlike canon, his vision is electro instead, and while he fights with both a longsword and parrying dagger, his usage of them is far more acrobatic and more like a dance. There's a rhythm to his movements, and he's also not afraid to mix things up to trick an opponent.
Due to no longer living in Mondstat, he's settled for making his home in Fontaine, enjoying the cooler climate and being able to occasionally sneak away to swim in the depths of the waters there.
Has far sharper teeth than in canon, and they're actually made to tear through fish scales quite easily. That being said, he's also not afraid to bite someone in the middle of a fight either, he can do quite a bit of damage.
He's blind in his right eye, and spent a while learning how to compensate for the loss of vision in it. The only time he removes his eyepatch is when he sleeps or he's bathing.
He likes to drop by Liyue and Sumeru, but he tends to complain about Sumeru's hotter climate.
His feelings towards others can be a bit complicated. While he easily offers a smile and is still incredibly charming. Those who know him well enough know that he's putting on a front. The few people who do know him well enough see a side of him that's far more introspective and rather closed off.
have you ever seen a man so perfect you started crying?
I made a google doc with some theories I have for Kaeya’s background but it’s easier if I just paste it all in a text post than link y’all to the document. buckle up kids i may have gone apeshit.
✦ The Alberichs as monarchs Kaeya is a(the?) prince of Khaenri’ah, his father the current king. His mission in Mond is to perform some sort of reconnaissance for his kingdom, as his duty as future monarch, and to eventually report back/take the helm in the war against Mondstadt.
In this version of events, I would imagine Kaeya started his journey from Khaenri’ah to Mondstat very reluctantly, likely not wanting to go at all, but ends up finding a proper family in the Ragnvindrs—which is to say nothing about how he mucks it all up in his Vision story, which I maintain is his poorly thought out attempt to assuage his guilt over Crepus’ death/his apparent emotional detachment(although not really) from it and how it so strongly contrasts with Diluc’s grief.
The life he’s built for himself in Mond is tenuous and he knows it; he feels torn between the duty he has to his people as future king and his personal freedom. How much of his own life does he have a right to, exactly, and how much of it belongs to his people? Now that he has his freedom, why should he give it up? Mondstadt’s themes of freedom/following the wind likely only serve to reinforce that he should continue to selfishly do what he wants, however, and the guilt over essentially abandoning his duty AND his people persists. This all snowballs with his conflicted feelings of family and isolation re: Diluc and Crepus, only further complicating his internal emotional state. My mans has depression.
✦ The Alberichs as vassals Kaeya’s family comes from a long line of vassals to the throne of Khaenri’ah, and it falls to Kaeya to help the king climb back on his throne, on top of whatever is happening with Khaenri’ah’s war with Mondstadt. His mission is the same, although in this his involvement is much less direct—performing a duty for a king he’s likely met only a handful of times or has never met at all, and respects from a distance(?) VS being forced into a position of authority at a young age. He’s not as emotionally involved with the fate of Khaenri’ah in this scenario, and might even find it easier to slip into the role of spy/playing as one of Crepus’ children, although I think the impact of his death is the same no matter what.
In this, I think, it would be much easier for Kaeya to defect, technically, but the emotional weight/his conflict over doing so would still be the same, if not worse because there’s that extra person(a king no less) depending on his success, whatever that entails.
notes: In both instances, I think that Kaeya’s mission is the same, but the details of WHY he’s supposed to be motivated to be there at all are different. I also get the impression that Kaeya’s relationship with his father is a very cold one(get it haha because ice vision?) regardless of background, and the distance coupled with the contrast of Crepus’ warmer parenting style likely only cements this in both. This is all to say nothing of his possible connection to Dainsleif.
tl;dr Kaeya gets much more attached to the Ragnvindrs than he bargained for, attempts to talk himself out of it, and it blows up in his face when it doesn’t work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Gold for the gods, torment for the sinners.
