she absolutely, positively adored valentines day and that was to say the least.
deep down beneath all the layers that one had to peel back to find chaerin underneath all the personality that was kaia, she had a child-like innocence when it came to romance and she was a certified romantic. the lavish gifts and the declarations of romantic feelings all leading up to that magical white altar was her childhood dream and each year she would celebrate all of these excited pent up feelings on the day where true love was the focus.
just hearing it made her heart go all aflutter and so there was no way she could keep still for long without embarking on a new adventure for the holidays, though this time she enlisted some help. seolhyun and seoyoung were absolute godsends in the ideas and innovation they brought to the creative pool. where she was bad at editing herself, they stepped in and found more feasible alternatives for her often overzealous nature with the underlying complacency of respect as everyone gave their opinions without ever growing nasty or offensive. strong personalities that came together often clashed but she was proud to say that they had worked together beautifully and produced a set up that was even more breathtaking.
tables pushed together to accommodate what they had prepared, the girls kept in mind the new diets the trainees were on with the announcement of the samsung promotions and though valentine’s day was notorious for the designer chocolates, strawberries were a pretty big deal too. they created a lovely pastel ombre effect of yogurt covered strawberries to make for a delectable, healthy treat that was safe to indulge in. they’d also prepared a selection of red and pink colored natural juices for the trainees to choose from should they grow thirsty and they kept those on the healthier sides as well. the entire idea was to enjoy the holiday without breaking diet. kaia had come with sweets last time but now she slowly began to understand the importance of sticking to their regime.
the girls had also decided on dressing for the occasion and they each wore a springy heart headband to accentuate their clothes. kaia went rather casual with a light sweater decorated with kisses, a pair of light denim jeans and a pair of pink pumps to still be bright and festive along with the other girls. seoyoung had proposed the ideas of corsages to present to each trainee and kaia had completely fallen in love with the idea so as the time allotted for breakfast passed and trainees came and went from their tables, kaia participated as well in the gift giving.
her first lucky recipient was none other than her secret santa himself. she’d never gotten to personally thank him for the adorable gifts he had given her and now seemed the perfect time. she smiled as she left her seat beside the girls and lightly stepped in his direction, preceding her sudden appearance with a wave and a kind but chipper, “hey!” she held the corsage carefully in her hands as she spoke. “i never got to thank you for the super cute alpacas you got me for christmas! i’m pretty bad at naming things,” which wasn’t a lie because she named her pet snakes after two of her favorite designers, dior and chanel, “but because of the green i decided to go ahead and name the other one matcha.” she laughed at herself because honestly it was a bit lame. “hopefully you approve of it. i tried, hon. i don’t keep them on my keychain because sometimes my keys won’t fit in my purse but i linked them together and they hang around my rear view mirror, scouts honor. i really appreciate them.” she smiled, holding up her hand as if making a vow of honesty. extending the corsage to him, she raised her shoulder softly. “it’s pretty obvious by now i take holidays super seriously so i hope you have a happy valentine’s day, love. this is for you.” and she drew her arm back in a light grand gesture towards the table behind her. “and so is that! everything is health conscious and all that good stuff so feel free to eat your little heart out and not worry about getting in trouble. we should definitely talk more, too. new year, new friends.” she gave a little twiddle of her fingers and a bright smile before turning on her heels to head back to the table. “bye, hon!”
there’s this love for holidays and special occasions hidden inside him somewhere, always ready to jump out when it’s time to get into a festive mood and while he sucks at things like thinking of presents and giving them out to others, he tries his best to show how much his love and appreciation to others – even on those who are not as huge as others.
oh, wait, what is he talking about;
valentine’s day is a pretty huge deal, actually, and as a romantic at heart it’s easy for him to overlook the dirty role of the industry about it to focus on the message this day is supposed to spread. baekhyun really does love it and so, seeing decorated tables in a similar fashion to last year’s christmas and adorable fashion of the girls, easily pushes him into it, his expression showing awe. he stops in his tracks when he notices kaia walking towards him and who else would’ve prepared something like this? it wasn’t difficult to guess how much she loves those holidays even without actually knowing her.
and he gives her a smile, friendly and inviting. it’s a chance of talking for once even if it’s pretty late, both of them have been around each other for a while now, but, maybe, this can be their start.
“oh no— it’s no problem at all,” he waves his hands in front of him almost frantically, shaking his head at her, “we’re all really busy after all.” the smile returns as he nods along to the girl’s words, the smile spreading back across his lips. “matcha?” he repeats, almost beaming at her. he claps his hands together enthusiastically. “it’s so cute! it’s perfect, i think it fits well.” and he’s just glad his request for her gift didn’t weird her out, baekhyun well aware of the fact that naming things like stuffed animals and other stuff isn’t something everyone likes – it’s nice to know that she didn’t dislike it, that it didn’t make her feel weird. “i really suck at picking presents, but when i saw them they just seemed to fit.” maybe, because to baekhyun kaia has this lowkey intimidating but also very elegant vibe, something cool but with enough depth for him to know that she surely has a soft side inside there as well. “so i’m just really glad that you liked them,” he sighs in relief before barking out a laugh.
but it grows sheepish fast, almost a little shy once she hands him over the gift and a small gasp escapes him when he looks at it. the corsage looks so pretty; and he’s seen corsages before, very cute and pretty ones but the only time he got to wear one was at his brother’s wedding ( they looked very good, though, very stylish ). “thank you so much,” baekhyun says with a happy smile, holding the corsage safely in his hands, looking it over before his eyes dart back to kaia in front of him. “happy valentine’s day to you too. it’s kind of nice to have someone around who likes to spread joy this much.”
she’s doing really great with that.
despite her being younger and a shorter time in the company, baekhyun bows his head lightly as another thank you and his eyes fall back down to the corsage as she’s already walking away. he waves after her hurriedly. “let’s really talk more this year, okay? promise!”
