Love Yourself Prologue

"Some moments become more vivid with the passage of time. Yesterday's many encounters and goodbyes existed for this moment. Every alley and crossroad I walked through were all meant to lead me to this exact place. That kind of moment is what I mean."

The couple sat in the same spot they always spent most of their middle school years goofing off. The stream was steadily flowing as it normally did. The sound of the water was calming to the young girl but the memories that the place brought had stopped her from returning.

"The sound of cicadas that chirped like the sound of a rain shower end in an instant. In the abrupt silence, I realize life's immense beauty. Just the fact that you are in it makes all the differences. Even if this were a dream, this is where I choose to be. Why is it that the happiest of moments usher sudden fear?"

The pair was silent taking in the moment they both had unknowingly been waiting for since the day they last parted. When they both decided to walk away from the memories they shared. It was a calming moment for them to sit beside each other without holding contempt, or fear in their hearts. All the good memories seemed to be washed away with the bad when they last met. However, time always heals if you allow it to it seems.

"Looking back, I had known all along that underneath the glittering world before my eyes, lay my deception. That everything was to collapse with a breath of wind, I turned away, sidestepped, simply closed my eyes. Afraid I was, afraid to be loved for who I am."

The young blonde girl thought back to their last big fight that stopped their dreamlike love story in its tracks, and smiled. She could remember his words piercing through her heart at the time, but now it seemed to all make sense. They were young kids trying to figure out who they were still. Although it doesn't excuse the hurt he caused her at the time it made her realize that they were both frantically trying to fight for a different outcome. She couldn't sacrifice herself to be his emotional punching bag, and he was too lost in his own world to realize the truth in front of him.

"If we could turn back the clock, where should we go back to? Once we reach that place, can all our mistakes and errors be undone? Will happiness be ours forever? Though many seasons pass, there are places that cannot be reached. Yet another storm to be faced and weathered head on."

She wanted to believe that if things were different, or had noticed his change of attitude sooner perhaps there could have been a better outcome for them. However in this moment she knew that they were both already in the places they should be. He was beginning to look forward to basketball again. She was beginning to love herself. They were on their own paths in life and they were both content with that fact.

"Loving without fear. Hesitating and parting. Merely living as the person I am."
