♡ Kaiser is in love with his new family!
It’s almost 2:00AM.
Besides the occasional sound of a car passing by or of the crickets chirping into the night sky, barely any noise can be heard from the world outside. Any other person would probably be in deep slumber by now, but Kaiser can’t bring himself to go to bed despite all the exhaustion coursing through his body.
His sleep was rudely interrupted by the cries of his 4 month son echoing from the baby monitor installed in your shared bedroom. He has always been a light-sleeper, so on the first whine he was already up and walking towards the nursery as fast as possible to shush the infant, while trying his best not to wake you in the process, because he knows you are more worn out than he is. Between late night feedings and diaper changes, there was no time left for relaxation for the two of you. Especially for you, as the baby seems to be more attached to you and wants to be in your arms 24/7 — Your son is growing to be very high maintenance it seems, guess he gets it from his father.
Even after attending to his son’s needs and watching the infant fall asleep in his arms, Michael didn’t not put him back in the crib and trudge back to bed.
Instead, he sat on the armchair adjacent to it while holding the sleeping baby in his arms and just gazed upon him. Watching how his chest raised up and down as he snored like he’s the one who pays the bills and how his cute face looked under the moonlight and the light coming from the blue night light plugged next to the chair.
Michael is still in disbelief that this is his life now. He never pictured this exact scenario in his life before.
All he ever thought about since day one was himself, because no one else ever did. He put all his focus on football and success, believing this would be his path to true enlightenment, and for a good while it was, but being loved by you gave him a sense of fulfillment that was different than scoring the 300th goal of his career or being awarded with his first ballon d’Or at the age of 24.
And you loved him enough to actually stay with him even when he’s hard to grasp and an enigma to others. You loved him enough to give him something he never had before — a family.
Michael is not going to lie. When you first told him that you were expecting, he was petrified and even hoped for a split second that he was just hallucinating, but now that he’s here, that initial doubt has faded away.
His son makes a gurgling sound that takes him away from the tangent his brain went to and brings back the focus to the present moment.
It’s funny how even at 4 months only you can already see Michael's features on his son. He really stole his whole face…who would have thought that something so pure and angelic could look like Michael Kaiser of all people? How a man who’s so flawed like him managed to create a thing so perfect like this is something Michael has yet to understand…
“Michael?” His eyes turn to the door at the sound of your groggy voice, “What are you doing?
“He was crying,” He says, adjusting the baby in his arms. “I came to check on him. Now, why are you awake?”
“...You weren’t there anymore. So I couldn’t sleep.” It’s amusing how even after years together, you still crave his presence as if you’re still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship. “Are you coming back to bed now?”
“I am,” his gaze shifts back to your son. “But I want him to sleep in our room tonight. You know, in case he cries again.”
You smiled. “I’m fine with that. C’mon, let' s go. I’m about to pass out here.”
“Yeah, you look rough.”
“You don’t look much better y’know that, right?”
“Yeah, whatever. Let’s just go.”
And then the three of you leave together, ready to take advantage of the few hours of peace and quiet you’ll have before your son wakes up again.
Yeah, raising a child is not the easiest task nor something he ever thought he’d be doing ever, but now, Michael thinks he can never go back to how things were before you and your son were in his life.
