"why are you looking at me like that..." hopefully I can deal with the angst 🙃🙃
I couldn't quite manage to write some angst. Hopefully, you'll still enjoy it.
[ask game]
It was a political event of sorts, Sasuke couldn’t have cared less about it or in what or whose honor it was. All he knew was that downing a drink or two would make the hours he’d have to be there more bearable.
He hid in a corner, hoping everyone would ignore him. It had worked for the most part. Only Naruto and, surprisingly, Gaara had come over to chat with him.
He stood in the shadows, a third drink in his hand as he watched Kakashi almost dance around the room. He carefully avoided having to speak with anyone for more than a few minutes. He kept a polite smile, Sasuke could tell by the curve of his eye, even when he wanted nothing more than to leave.
Suddenly, those storm-gray eyes met his and Sasuke froze. Before he knew it, Kakashi was making his way toward him.
“I take it you’re enjoying the gala?” “Do I look like I want to be here?”
“Not any more than me.”
“You’re better at masking it than me.” Sasuke took a sip of his drink so he didn’t look at Kakashi’s face. He didn’t normally give compliments so freely, but Kakashi has always been an exception.
“Since when are you so nice?”
“Thank the alcohol.”
“You must be a lightweight, what’s that, your second drink?”
“Third one, actually.” Sasuke rolled his eyes.
They fell into a comfortable silence. Sasuke sipped his drink as Kakashi hid from politicians and other influential people. Kakashi scanned the room and his eyes suddenly stopped. Sasuke followed his eyes to see what he was looking at.
Oh. He was looking at him.
Sasuke tore his eyes from the man. Instead, he tried to focus on anything else. His eyes wandered across the room over to the sand siblings then to the Mizukage, then the Raikage until his eyes eventually fell on Kakashi.
Kakashi looked tired. Sasuke could see bags forming under his eyes and a restlessness deep within him. He also looked a bit thinner. Perhaps he hadn’t eaten and rested properly because of all the work he must do.
Some part of him, deep inside – a part that remained wholly Uchiha, not the changed, almost collage-like Sasuke of today that had forgotten too many traditions – wanted to take care of Kakashi. He wanted to be the person Kakashi came home to, to be the person that to care for him. Sasuke wanted and wanted. It made him feel selfish, stupid even, to want something he’d never have.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Kakashi snapped Sasuke out of his musings.
“How? Like I want you to leave my hiding place?” Sasuke sipped on his drink, avoiding Kakashi’s concerned gaze.
“What’s bothering you?” “What makes you think something’s bothering me?”
“Because you had a look on your face and suddenly you start pushing me away.” Kakashi’s tone was getting tenser the more Sasuke tried to avoid answering.
“What do you mean pushing you away? Is me teasing you pushing you away?” Sasuke looked Kakashi in the eyes.” I’m sorry, I’ll make sure to never tease you again, Lord Sixth.”
“Sasuke, don’t avoid the question, and don’t use that tone on me.” Kakashi’s voice tensed and lowered.
“You know what? I’m leaving.”
” No, you’re not.” Kakashi grabbed Sasuke’s wrist.” Do you really want to make a scene here?”
“You’re the one making a scene!” Sasuke hissed.” I was happily hiding and counting the hours until I could leave before you came over!”
Sasuke managed to get his wrist out of Kakashi’s hold. He quickly walked away before Kakashi could try and talk to him again.
