The above photo is kalette; it’s a hybrid between a brussel sprout and kale.
I couldn’t find my line so I have to guess it as I was starting to feel the heat.
The kalette is planted first. I am spacing around 600mm/24 inches apart.
In between I have some odd plants just to put in. A sprouting cauliflower and a couple of red cabbages.
After giving them a good watering I using this garden net tunnels. Protection from the pigeons but the netting does offer some shade to the plants. I will need to change this as the kalette will grow much taller.

This is kalette, it’s a cross between a brussel sprout and kale. They didn’t develop as they should of. I tried one of the young leaves, full of flavour though I’m not sure what kale tastes like. I thought I pick the young leaves and cook with them probably treat it like kale.
Oven Roasted Kalettes (Kale Sprouts) are a great new vegetable that is fun to eat! By roasting them in the oven you get delicious, crispy kale leaves with tender-crisp stems that taste like Brussels sprouts!

I planted up the last few of my celery plants; using them to help keeping the netting in place.
I use plastic bottles and bamboo canes to support the netting to allow my brassicas to grow. The netting is a fine mesh which should keep the white cabbage butterflies out.
Planting out the last of my brassicas; kalette and purple sprouting.
The plants on the right were planted about three weeks ago so I was expecting them to have grown a little but you can’t tell the difference. Slugs are enjoying the tasty treats.
I’m planting them about 600mm apart. I just fitting the row in the space.
