Danganronpa Rarepair Week Day 1: Beach
Kamugiri (Izuru Kamukura x Kyoko Kirigiri) caretaking Monaca Towa, hanging out on the Jabberwock Island beach.
~1150 words
——-
Izuru opened his eyes, and was staring directly at the sun, albeit through dark sunglasses. The undisturbed Jabberwock beach sparkled in the sun’s rays, not a cloud in the sky. Only a lone seagull’s squawking could be heard, save the deep blue water quietly lapping against the shore, leaving traces of seafoam.
He was laying on an elongated beach chair, with his hands behind his head, underneath his long, luxurious black hair. Clothed in only black swim trunks, his pale white skin was getting tanner in the beating rays of the sun. Thankfully so. Since it was summer, he thought that he may as well. His current skin color was getting boring.
On the beach chair to his right lay Kyoko Kirigiri, wearing a lavender one piece, matching the hair that laid in a ponytail beside her. Round, dark purple sunglasses adorned her face, as she sunbathed, unmoving.
Izuru turned his head slightly to look at her. Conveniently, he was wearing sunglasses, too, and one good thing about sunglasses is that no one can see where you’re-
“Enjoying the view?”
Kyoko’s words startled Izuru, but he smirked in response.
Female instinct. One of the rare talents he didn’t possess.
Speaking monotonously, Izuru attempted to cover his tracks in the vain hope that she was talking about the beach.
“Yes, the beach is quite nice today. I’m surprised Monaca isn’t out here playing.”
Kyoko nodded and turned towards him.
“That surprised me as well, but she said she was busy working on something.”
Izuru shrugged playfully, taking off his sunglasses to reveal his blood-red eyes.
“Oh, well. One less pair of eyes out here isn’t a bad thing.”
Kyoko tilted her sunglasses down, staring into his.
“Her eyes are about as mischievous as yours.”
So she did notice… Izuru smirked, raising his eyebrows at her.
“And yours aren’t?”
Kyoko replaced her sunglasses and laid back down, not acknowledging his question.
“I’ll have to let you off with a warning this time.”
“That’s what you said last time.”
“Don’t push it.”
Izuru shrugged again, and began stretching. His body was getting stiff from laying down for so long.
“Well… All this sunbathing is getting quite boring… I need to stretch.”
Izuru motioned to get up from his beach chair, but Kyoko shot an arm out in front of him, stopping his movement.
“Did you hear that? That ruffling in the bushes behind us… I’m sure someone’s there; it reacted to your movements. I’m surprised you didn’t notice it…”
Izuru gave her a glazed look, staying in his seat as instructed.
“I did notice it. I just didn’t feel the need to say anything.”
Kyoko nodded, and grabbed her chin in contemplation.
“Ok… But who could it-“
She immediately froze in her realization.
“Monaca.”
Izuru gave her a smile, expecting her answer. Monaca always played tricks on them like this. It was what she thought of as “fun”; messing with the lives of others.
“It looks like we have a spy in our midst.”
Kyoko turned around in her chair and took off her sunglasses, slowly peeking out at the bush behind her.
“I don’t think she’s simply here to spy… She was probably building something to prank us…”
“A long-distance water gun, perhaps.”
“Yeah… But wait-“
Kyoko squinted in confusion at Izuru.
“If I hadn’t stopped you, you would’ve been directly in her view… That gives me the impression that you actually wanted to fall into Monaca’s trap.”
Izuru chuckled a bit, his eyes sparkling.
“Maybe… It’s no fun if I win them all.”
Kyoko smiled contagiously, giving Izuru a quick, light punch.
“Oh, you…”
She then looked away, staring off into the distance at the ocean skyline.
“But it does make me uncomfortable to have someone watching us…”
Izuru nodded. He didn’t quite like it, either. He knew Monaca would do this, though, so he formulated a plan to do something about it. He slowly reached under his beach chair, pushing away the sand to reveal something underneath.
Izuru stepped out of his chair lazily, giving Monaca a clear shot from her bush. And, just as expected, a burst of water shot from it. He positioned himself so that he would get hit square in the face, and he closed his eyes, bracing himself for the impact. The water splashed on him, soaking his hair and face with coldness. Kyoko reached her hand up to shield herself from the residue, grinning.
Monaca bounced out of the bush in excitement, with her augmented water gun in hand. She jumped up and down, pointing at Izuru, smiling widely.
“Monaca got Izuru good, didn’t she?”
Izuru gave her a smirk, and his arm shot underneath his chair, pulling out a water gun of his own. Before Monaca could react, he shot a blast of water towards the girl’s face. Her eyes widened once she finally noticed.
“Wha- Noooo-”
The girl threw her hands up in an attempt to shield herself, but it didn’t stop the water. Her face was soaked as well, including the dark blue dress she was wearing. Monaca began one of her classic tantrums.
“Hey! No! Fair! Monaca isn’t even in a swimsuit!”
Izuru shrugged at the girl, shaking his head lightly. Monaca was always fun to play with. And even if she did have these tantrums, after a few hours it was as if nothing ever happened.
“But you are on the beach. So you should be prepared to get wet. Especially if you get someone else wet.”
Monaca clenched her fists together, her face growing red in anger.
“Grrr… Monaca’s gonna go change…”
Monaca stomped off the beach, still dripping from Izuru’s water gun. Izuru turned back towards Kyoko, who was giggling at the both of them.
“There. Now we’re alone.”
Kyoko quickly stopped laughing and regained her composure, nodding at Izuru.
“That is true… But you can’t sit back down, you’re dripping wet.”
Izuru quickly pointed his water gun at Kyoko and tapped the trigger, spraying her with water. She reached her hands up in response, playfully yelling at him.
“Hey!”
“My finger slipped.”
The girl got up quickly, wiping herself down.
“Yes. Your finger slipped.”
She walked over to Izuru and began wresting the water gun out of his hand.
“Give me that!”
Izuru didn’t care about keeping the water gun; it already did its job. He stood there motionless as Kyoko yanked the water gun from him and tossed it away.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds, but Kyoko couldn’t help but break into a smile.
“Well, considering that we’re both wet, and that all unwanted spectators are gone, there’s only one logical thing to do.”
The girl threw a finger out to the ocean, the waves still as calm as they were before. Izuru gave her a genuine smile, reaching a hand out to her.
“After you.”
Kyoko took his hand lightly and grinned as she began leading him towards the water.

Sorry for the super late entry, I’ve been super busy. I decided to write some Kamugiri because it’s one of my favorite ships. I don’t know if I’ll write more, but it was definitely fun writing this one.
Want to know how the three of them got here? Read The Biggest Challenge Yet and Beyond Hope and Despair, which are on my Ao3 page (linked in my profile).
(Also: I wrote some non-abusive Amamugi for this event but that ship is not allowed, so check out my tumblr if you want to see it)
