He had not been honest at all. How could he explain that they couldn't work together because her memories may be triggered without telling her that she had had her memories erased by him? How could he tell her that he was terrified of working with her in a setting they had originally fallen in love in?

He refused to make eye contact with her. "I think you're overqualified and would be better suited at another clinic. I could write you a recommendation letter if you'd like."

He paused for several moments before realizing that she was talking about the coffee in his hands. "I'm sorry. If I had known you were going to stop by, I would have bought one for you too," he tried to recover quickly.

He didn't know how to respond to this. Of course he knew that she had found him attractive. There was so much he wanted to say, but he knew better than to say anything.

He looked at her for a few moments before giving her a sad smile. "Thank you."

Hatori really needed an assistant. He still hadn’t brought himself to hire someone after... Kana. How was he supposed to let someone take her job? She had been great at it, too, and he couldn’t bring himself to replace her.

That had been a year ago. Now, he was in a much better headspace. And as much as he kept putting off hiring someone, he really needed a new person to work for him.

He had spoken to a head hunter, and she had organized the interview times, so he was in his office, waiting for his next candidate. Between going to see patients in the morning, he didn’t have the time to check the resume he had been emailed until now even though the interview would start in a few minutes.

He clicked it open, and his heart sunk: Kana Sohma. Oh no.
