Kanduke
Can we not characterize male orca as rapists & abusive husbands/dead beat dads? We’ve got psycho whale Tilikum & rapist Kanduke, this is disgusting

Here’s a bunch of monotone inktobers from this year! I’ll scan some of the others soon, these are just the ones that happen to be in my studio right now.

Happy 11th birthday to Nalani! Nalani is the fourth daughter of Katina, and only daughter of Taku (in the third image, is Katina, Nalani, and her sons Taku and Ikaika). Nalani is the only really inbred (what would count as inbreeding and illegal in humans) whale, and she was an accidental pregnancy between mother and son. A few months after her birth, Taku and Ikaika were moved to other parks to prevent this happening again.
Today is also 42 years since Kanduke (aka. Kandu 4) was sent to Marineland Ontario, a month after his capture in British Columbia. There he met another transient, Knootka (only days after her own arrival), and Southern resident Kandu 2. I don't know if it was at Marineland or SeaWorld that he was renamed "Duke" (Kanduke), but likely it was here since they had a Kandu already.
And 13 years ago, in 2004, Nanki Shirahama Adventure World had three adult killer whales and a baby on the way, but instead of a bright future, mother and calf died the month before, and Kyu, the father, apparently traumatized by the losses, died on this day from a bacterial pneumonia, leaving Goro as the only remaining killer whale.
I’ve literally never seen video of Kanduke
also beware the obvious racist appropriation of Tlingit & Haida culture

27 years ago, in 1991, Kanduke passed away at SeaWorld Orlando. He had only been sick for two days, and was in his early twenties. He was the last of a small number of transients in human care, and left two daughters, Taima and Katerina. Today he has two grandchildren, Tekoa and Malia.
He was an unusual-looking whale, with his enormous and massive bulk, but small flippers like on a young teenager. His eyepatch left him extremely recognizeable. First called Kandu and then officially known as Kanduke, the trainers knew him as "Duke".
(Another place in my documents says he died on the 21st. Please correct me.)
Oops I haven’t posted anything in almost a week. Here’s snekgirl coral and orcaboy kanny that I should sincerely draw more of.
