Since I have ruffled some feathers regarding my post on Oxygen and how I believe we should embrace this show, just as many of us (myself included) have embraced other shows with more toxic characters/themes, I would like to clarify my position on the matter.

Some concerns that have been placed in front of me are as follows: “Why are you bashing other shows to make a point?”, “Why are you policing the contents of adult shows?”, and “Why does every BL have to be a fairytale or a cautionary statement?”

I will be answering these in this post as I have answered them in the comments so that hopefully everyone will have a clearer understanding of my previous words.

Q: “Why are you bashing other shows to make a point?”

A: I never bashed any of these shows in their entirety. Two of the shows I made examples out of (Why R U & My Engineer) I loved aside from the couples I specified in my original post. I merely pointed out the toxicity and/or outright violence that seems to be a staple between most main couples presented to us in BL. The point of that was to compare those couples to the couples we currently see represented in Oxygen who seem to be forming healthier relationships.

Q: “Why are you policing the contents of adult shows?”

A: I’m not really policing the contents of adult shows, rather I am stating that the exploitation of gay trauma and glorification of domestic and sexual abuse should not be requirements for it to classified as such. Additionally, I acknowledge that these atrocities happen in real life, but feel that when portrayed in film it is the responsibility of those involved to not romanticize it.

Q: “Why does every BL have to be a fairytale or a cautionary statement?”

A: Every BL does not have to be a fairytale or cautionary statement, but I personally find it disturbing and disheartening that most of the LGBT content that comes out contains some level of toxicity or violence towards the sexual minority it is depicting. As a member of the LGBT community I feel the community overseas deserve to have shows that provide true escapism and show them in loving relationships (which the 2nd main couple or side couples usually exemplify. However, that is often overshadowed when the majority of the screen time is spent on the destructive one). At the very least there should be a balance between the two types of content.

I that that Kao's somehow related to the mafia (his dad seems a bit... OOF) and that's why he refuses to believe the rumours about Phu. Like someone goes "he's a member of the mafia, he's very dangerous etc etc blah blah blah"

And Kao's just thinking "if he was in the mafia I'D KNOW ABOUT IT"

I haven't read any of the novels so idk wtf is going on

A question for my Thai BL brethren, sistren and theydren:

Something that really confused me while watching Oxygen, and still does, was Phu's mother? In his story about his brother, didn't Phu say that she was stabbed to death in front of him? Was that not his mom and just his bro's? Because his mom later on appears, what the fuck did I miss 🤣
