Lena paced. She had spent most of the day baking, too shaken up after her appointment with Alex to be able to focus at L-Corp, and asked Kara to come over once she was done with work, telling her she would share the results of her appointment then. The kitchen table was littered with pies and cakes; she had bought more pans along with the ingredients. Her attempts at cooking were generally not very successful, so she had ordered pizza and potstickers to be delivered shortly before Kara should be there.
Kara could arrive at any minute, and Lena was pretty sure her heart was going to pound out of her chest before she did. Alex had been able to, through a blood test, confirm that the baby was absolutely Kara’s, which left no room for Kara (or anyone else, for that matter) to doubt her loyalty. But did Kara even want a baby? Could they handle a baby? Moreover, Alex had warned her about the potential risks of having a half Kryptonian baby gestating in a human body. It was very likely that the baby would receive yellow sunlight into its cells through Lena’s body. There was a possibility that once the baby was at a point it could kick, Lena would have to go on something akin to bed rest -- stuck at the DEO getting only red sun, to make sure the baby’s strength couldn’t injure her. Arguably, the safest choice would be not to have it... but that was barely an option in Lena’s mind, no matter the risk to her life.
As much as it absolutely terrified her, Lena wanted this. She didn’t feel ready, but she had always wanted a child of her own to raise and love and protect.
