Brave Frontier 2 Early Chapter Draft

Marena cracked one eye open as she roused herself from her nap, seeing the sun still peeking through the leaves of the tree she was under.

“Mornin’, Sunshine. Sleep well?” Liam asked. He stretched next to her, having just woken up from his own nap.

Marena sat up and stretched as well. “As well as I could. Is our ‘glorious’ captain back from Ishgria yet?”

Liam laughed mockingly. “No, our fearless leader has yet to return, much less send anyone a message or an update.”

“So, same shit as always? Great...” Marena grumbled. “I’m so bored.”

“Hey, why don’t we call your dad and see if he’s got anything?” Liam suggested.

Marena blushed. “N-No way! Besides, he’s probably too busy with a lot of other things right now. Hey, I know! Let’s call your aunt!”

Now it was Liam’s turn to be flustered. “Oh, hell no! She fucking scares me.”

“Sure she does.” Marena scoffed.

“Then, who else could we talk to that’s here?”

“You’re asking me?”

“You’re the one whose parents are both Elder Summoners.” Liam stated matter-of-factly.

“And my mom is on a mission herself right now.” Marena shot back with the same tone.

They stared at each other for a moment, waiting for the other to suggest something.

Liam reached for his communicator and pressed some buttons. “I’m calling Lord Karl.”

“Don’t!” Marena tried to snatch the device from him while he kept it as far away from her as he could while remaining seated. The holographic screen appeared in front of him with a phone symbol and the words “Dialing Lord Karl” up above it. After a few seconds, Karl answered the call.

“Hello, Liam. Is there something you need?”

“Heya, Lord Karl!” Liam greeted cheerfully as he kept Marena away from being visible on-screen. “I was just wondering if there’s any new missions to take.” Liam was suddenly pushed aside by Marena.

“I’m so sorry, sir!” she cried. “I know you’re very busy; I tried to stop him!”

Karl chuckled. “Mari, relax. He’s not interrupting anything.” Marena removed her hand from Liam’s face, allowing him back into the shot. He glared at her for a moment as he rubbed his cheek. “But, I’m sorry to say that I don’t have anything for you two at the moment.”

“Aw, man...” Liam groaned.

Marena huffed and crossed her arms. “Dammit...”

“But, I’ll keep you two posted if anything comes up, okay?” Karl checked his watch. “I have a meeting in a few minutes.”

“Alright, thanks, Lord Karl.” Liam said.

“Bye, Dad.” Marena waved at the screen as it shut off.

At one point during their conversation, Karl had begun to play with Ren's hair while listening intently to her intel on the mission and offering his own relevant suggestions.

"So, I'll take the area north of here, and you take south?" Ren asked him again to clarify.

"Yeah."

"I'll see you, then!" She gave him a quick peck on the lips before taking off. Karl gave her a small wave.

As soon as he turned around, he jumped at the sight of Rowena already summoned and waiting for him.

"H-How long have you been there?" He asked.

"I'd say around most of your little chat with my daughter."

There was an awkward silence between them. Karl felt his future mother-in-law's gaze upon his flustered self, realizing she did catch them being quite affectionate during a mission.

Karl spoke up. "H-Her hair is really soft and fluffy."

"I know. She gets it from her father. Rex's hair is like that, too. It...feels very nice." Rowena replied, blushing just as much.

☼ - appearance headcanon

Assuming Karl's half-demon status actually gave him a full demon's longevity/immortality, ever since Karl unlocked his powers, his aging process has been halted for now. In BF2, while he is chronologically and mentally 45, his body hasn't physically aged past 24-25.

☠ - angry/violent headcanon

Karl isn't someone who's easily angered, but his anger does have two threshholds. First threshhold is when he gains a very almost uncharacteristic "Don't. Push it." tone to his voice. Second threshhold is full-blown outrage. Both are mostly triggered by anything grievous/slanderous said against people he cares about, especially when he believes he can easily disprove it. And after he unlocked his demon powers, his eyes will turn red and reptilian at both.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

According to translations of his official Storybook data, Karl apparently collects shoes for a hobby. That being said, he totally owns at least one pair of these bad boys:
