“KASKARA” (1974) by Dore O
What are some examples of medieval African armor and how effective was it compared to European and Asian armours?
This is a far larger ask than you may realize. Africa is a large continent, with a tremendous diversity of cultures and a deep history. Additionally, it's far from my area of expertise. As such, I would recommend checking out the HAMAA Facebook group for more in depth info.
That being said, I can provide you with a few examples of the most famous African weapons, such as the Ethiopian shotel,
the Sudanese kaskara,
the Zulu iklwa,
and the variety of throwing knives used in Central Africa, which are known by various names.
All of these weapons are equally as effective as similar weapons used elsewhere in the world.
As far as armor goes, I know that maille in various forms has been utilized for a very long time, at least in northern Africa.
I would again encourage you to seek out members of HAMAA for more in depth information.
