Katarin how long have you known Najarin?
Katarin: Since I was a little girl. I grew up in the forests surrounding Ken-I-Po. My family forbid me from swimming at the lake, but there was a time I would ignore them and sneak over.
One time while in the water, I felt something grab my ankle. An UnderWorlder had crept up from Everrain. They’re always sending water warriors up to try and infiltrate the castle or reach another location. It and Ken-I-Po are connected by underground passages. Water from the lake trickles down through them, making what would be another barren, scorching chamber a fungal swamp. OverWorlders have asked to block the passages, but Najarin refuses. UnderWorld civilians depend on that water to survive, people who have nothing to do with the attacks.
I probably would have been dragged under, taken to the UnderWorld to be bartered or made a slave, if Najarin hadn’t been watching the water. OverWorld spies underground had warned of a possible emergence that day. Seeing the shadow beneath me in the lake, he launched an attack. It missed, but the UnderWorlder still retreated back to Everrain. Of course, Najarin chewed me out for swimming in the lake. My parents forbid me from leaving the houses for a few cycles of the moons.
That was the first time we spoke, and the only for many solans. We would meet again when the OverWorld Army stationed me at ken-I-Po. I may be older, but I still find myself learning from Najarin. Like during the Battle of Broken Edge. There are good reasons some types of mugics or attacks are avoided or forbidden.
Months ago, I noticed that Tzarina Katarin has a similar name to Katarina, an assassin from League of Legends. Why not make that assassin the coldest Tzarina?
“Don’t you think you should be, y’know, not out in public?” Dean asked his former Head of House. He leaned against the counter, ignoring Katarin’s drink order for now. There weren’t any customers after her yet - Nick couldn’t yell too much. “Or do you have the place surrounded in security guards? In which case, what happens if the shooter is around, shoots at you, and then your guards shoot this whole place up? Irresponsible, really.”

Aramis had been trying really hard to avoid Katarin. He was afraid that he’d be unable to hide the guilty look on his face and pour out the truth about the events at the library. So he’d been staying a lot at Kit’s place, sneaking in the Chateau here and there. On this one instance, however, he was halfway up the stairs when he heard his name called out.
And there the Duchess was, standing near the bottom, looking directly up at him. Great.
“Your Grace,” Aramis greeted, mustering a smile as he headed back down the steps. “How are you doing today?” he asked, trying to keep things as light and friendly as possible.
