Finished reading My Sister's Keeper about an hour ago- it was the most heart-wrenching bittersweet ending ever. Ultimately a really good read that I really recommend.
Side note, Alec Baldwain did a great job playing Campbell Alexander but he was the complete opposite of what I imagined Campbell to be.
It’s just dawned on me that the only reason I’ve watched this movie more than once is for Taylor and Kates relationship
Sara Fitzgerald: Oh my God, you're good. You're really good. You know, I've seen your commercials, right? I mean, who hasn't? And I always thought that you were some sort of headline-seeking hack. But you have real talent. You almost had me believing that you cared about Anna.
Campbell Alexander: Funny, I was about to say the same thing to you.
Would Kate Fitzgerald (My Sister's Keeper) have a Marisol Luna doll?
Yes!
Maybe?
Nah
Marisol Luna was born to dance. When her family moves from Chicago to the suburbs, her passion for dancing helps her persevere in the face of change.
Marisol was the Girl of the Year for 2005.
Propaganda: the book takes place in the early 2000s, and Kate was an aspiring ballet dancer, so she could've actually asked for a Marisol in-universe. Yeah she looks more like Isabelle and her story arc might remind Kate of her baby sister but I think the time-period connection would be most appropriate with Marisol
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult Let's Look At Abusive Families
My mother stands over me. “You went to a lawyer and made him think this is all about you— and it’s not. It’s about us. All of us—”” Note: This review is based on the book alone. If you have not read the book and you have any intention of doing so in the future, beware that there will be spoilers below. There are major differences between the book and the movie. By comparison to the book, the…
the problem i have with My Sisters Keeper isn’t with the changed ending because i find the movie ending to be more satisfying versus the book ending. the book ending had Anna being exactly what she didn’t want: to be used for the sum of her parts to save Kate. she died and all anyone thought of was her kidneys. and i understand that it’s supposed to be profound or whatever but it’s ultimately unsatisfying and frustrating. and i know things from the book had to be cute and changed for runtime purposes obviously but…
the issue i have with the movie however is the complete the removal of one of the main characters, Julia (and her lesbian twin Izzy!), who acts as Anna’s voice and gives depth to Campbell Alexander as a character completely changes the story. it was the removal of Jesse’s delinquency which makes his actions and behavior more explainable and makes it all the more obvious that Sara Fitzgerald wanted to save Kate so deeply and so desperately that she neglected the emotional needs of her other two children, which LED to Jesse slipping through the cracks! which LED To Jesse stealing a judges humvee. she neglected the emotional needed of Brian which LED to him taking Anna and moving into his firehouse. Campbell never seeing Anna again at the end of the movie when at the end of the book he was her medical power of attorney and he and Julia were friends with the Fitzgeralds.
tho Alec Baldwin as Campbell Alexander and Cameron Diaz as Sara Fitzgerald was 10/10 casting like no notes at all from me there. brilliant casting.
