We talked black holes and dark matter, quantum gravity and the Einstein Field Equations. It was a rare pleasure to have the chance to share my passion for physics with someone whose work is so meaningful to me! Queer Figures in Astronomy & Space Exploration: Dr. Katie Mack

Dr. Katie Mack is an American cosmologist and science communicator

She is passionate about making physics accessible to the general public, and has written for a number of publications, including but not limited to Scientific American, Sky & Telescope, and Cosmos Magazine

In August 2020, she published a book called The End of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking), which explores five possible scenarios for how the universe might end

In June 2022, she was the first person to be given the new position of the Stephen Hawking Chair in Cosmology and Science Communication at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics

Mack is referenced by name in the Hozier song “No Plan”: “As Mack explained, there will be darkness again”. This is a reference to a lecture in which she talked about the heat death of the universe, where all of the stars in the universe eventually run out of fuel and new star formation stops completely.

She is bisexual
