She inherited the role on the death of an acquaintance and she's doing her best but she's like twenty-one and so, so shit at it. She can't make the wand turn things into anything but pumpkins. She's being followed around by two interfering old ladies who are better at everything. She's up against a far more competent Wicked Fairy Godmother who believes *she's* the good one. It's Mardi Gras, there are zombies, she punches a snake in the face at one point...
Katriona:
An adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, Katriona wasn't originally going to be one of the princess' fairy godparents (she was simply a guest there for the naming day, and probably only 16ish at the time, but I am having a difficult time figuring out her age other than she was a young woman), but when the evil fairy showed up gave her cursed gift, she rushed up and babbled her own gift, and was given custody of the princess to protect her. She and her aunt do her best to raise the princess with the hope that "ordinariness" will protect her from the evil fairy's plans
Summary: It’s Alexys’ birthday and Kat makes the morning special with a good breakfast and a pester of just what Alexys would wish for when she blew out her candles.
A/N: For @space-sweetheart‘s birthday because I love her and she deserves the world, along with her f/os kissing her! I hope you like it darl, happy birthday <3
Alexys awoke to arms around her body, the gentle pull forward of a form who buried itself against her chest and breathed out a warm breath along her collar bone that made her shiver. Looking down through groggy eyes and messy hair, she could only smile as she admired the smaller woman at her side, their legs entwined together beneath the covers and the warmth radiating from the shared space much more appealing than the cold of the world outside of the bed itself. Reaching out without thinking about it, Alexys let her hand run through the mess of curls that hid away the face she so loved. When Katriona shifted as a result and let a soft giggle fall from her lips, Alexys knew that the other woman was awake and couldn’t stop the light smile that pressed to her lips even more than its predecessor.
Green eyes appeared through the mass of hair, Kat’s lips pulled into an impish smile as she hugged Alexys closer and nuzzled into her neck with a purr somewhere warm in the back of her throat. The feeling of her lover’s lips so close to her skin made Alexys hum with appreciation, her fingertips trailing lightly down the rest of Kat’s body as the two shared a comforting, warm embrace in the peeking light of the afternoon sun.
“Morning,” Alexys greeted, her voice still laden with sleep. Kat’s smile only widened as she wiggled eagerly in her spot.
“Mornin’,” She greeted similarly in her lilted Scottish tone, “It’s yer birthday.”
Alexys’ brow furrowed in confusion for one moment before the memory of the date came back to her. She blinked in surprise before nodding, a sudden sense of awe at the fact that her girlfriend had remembered filling up her stomach as she smiled.
“Yeah,” Alexys laughed, “It is.”
This time Kat giggled louder and pulled her into a closer, bone crushing hug. Alexys barely had time to register the movement before her lips were crushed into a kiss, warm and long and sweet as it tasted faintly of the ocean and bread flour. A strange combination that would reminder of the coasts of New Zealand. Kat had told her stories about how people would bake bread along the shoreline, against the active volcanoes for a more earthy flavor. She wasn’t sure just what that bread tasted like, but, she assumed it was the exact flavor of Kat’s kisses.
When they finally stopped kissing, Kat pressed her forehead one last time to Alexys’ before sitting up, stretching her body to and fro in order to free her muscles from their soreness. Alexys sighed as she admired the way her girlfriend’s back bent and flexed with such a unique power. As chubby as she was, her back muscles were taught with years of swimming in the ocean. Of practiced pushing against currents and raging seas as her form moved with comforting ease. Oh god, Alexys blushed, she was probably staring at her girlfriend’s back for way too long.
Kat hopped out of bed and Alexys followed, slower and with less enthusiasm, but still enough to indicate that she was aware of the situation. Kat always had far more energy than her in the morning and, for the life of Alexys, she could not figure out just what powered the selkie to be awake. Sure it was like. 1pm but still, they had just woken up and there was a lot to handle between getting out of bed and going into their shared kitchen. Especially as her feet touched the cold tile and it sent a shiver up her spine.
“Since it’s your birthday,” Kat hummed as she hopped into the kitchen and rummaged around, eventually finding her way to the oven and pulling out what appeared to be a pre-made, still warm breakfast that made Alexys start to drool at the smells coming from it, “I figured I’d make you a special birthday breakfast! I was up kind of early so...”
Kat giggled as she placed the food before Alexys. The pancake pile was layered with different flavors and colors, a rainbow of stacked breakfast food with scents of sweet sugar, chocolate chips, cinnamon, and maple wafting from each piece like a beautiful, edible work of art. Alexys could feel her stomach clench with hunger at the idea of consuming all of it, the top of the pile organized neatly with dollops of whipped cream and strawberries, a single candle in the center that was slowly lit with a long lighter Kat pulled from a nearby drawer.
Alexys felt her mouth fall open.
“This is... for me?”
“Well you’re the only one here with a birthday, silly fish!” Kat giggled and placed the plate on the table in front of Alexys, “I wanted to make it special! So hurry up and make a wish! Unless you want me to sing to you, which I can also do.”
“Oh?” Alexys raised an eyebrow eagerly, “Go for it.”
Kat rolled her eyes, but complied with the request nonetheless.
Her voice rolled from her tongue, melodically and all too beautiful for the credit she had given herself. Alexys felt her entire body relax into the sound of her lover’s voice as she sung the words to such a simple song in such a beautiful way that it was almost unfair. Perhaps it was simply a fae thing and all selkie’s and faeries alike had such beautifully toned voices. Perhaps they were designed much like sirens, to lure their prey into the ocean with comforting words and beautiful intonation. Perhaps Kat was just good at singing even though she rarely did it.
Perhaps Alexys was just really, really in love.
“Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday to you...
Happy birthday dear Alexys~.
Happy birthday to you!”
Kat finished and Alexys smiled, the love in her eyes focused so hard on the other girl that it made a brilliant blush shine on her tan skin as she smacked he human’s shoulder lightly.
“It ain’t that impressive, now make a wish!”
Alexys laughed despite the fire in her girlfriend’s voice and took a deep breath, blowing out the candle in one fell huff of air as she admired the way it flittered before going out completely. The smell of cheap smoke wafted aimlessly through the entire kitchen and the background noise of Kat clapping with excitement could be heard before she tackled her girlfriend to place a messy kiss on her cheek with a delighted hum.
Alexys laughed, hugging Kat back as best as she could and the two simply stared forward at the birthday breakfast with a moment of awe. As if understanding that they both needed a second to take in the moment. To understand how nice it was for each other.
After all, they had both come from situations, she supposed, where they could not have had this before.
The thought made Alexys’ heart hurt for a moment. Of Kat never celebrating birthdays. Of never keeping track of them. Why would a fae need to after all? She was ageless. Eternal in her existence and it only made the fact that she remembered an thought about Alexys all the more special.
“So,” Kat whispered as she pressed her cheek against Alexys’ with curious eyes focusing on the pancakes still, “What did you wish for?”
“If I tell you, won’t it not come true?”
“Is that the legend?” Kat mused with a laugh, “We have the opposite, my family. If you don’t share it with others then it won’t come true! Something about all of us wishing for it at once and pushing it into reality. So, come on, for my beliefs! Alexyyyyyyyys-”
“Okay, okay!” Alexys giggled and then went quiet, biting her lip as she tried to figure out the wording to her statement. When her voice finally left it was in a whisper, soft and relaxed as she murmured out just what she was thinking:
“I... wished that we could always be like this. You and me... in love for as long as we can manage. Which, I hope, can be forever.”
The words hung tight in the air, a tension of rope between the two girls as they held onto one another in the otherwise quiet of their apartment. Beyond them the sound of the city echoed here and there with no real rhythm to its noise, making it blend into the solid background of nothingness even more than before as Alexys swallowed and faced Kat.
Kat faced her to and, oh, that look in her eyes was warm. Warmer than a thousand small suns as a smile of appreciation spread across her cheeks and the heat of it turned her skin red with admiration. Her grip only tightened on Alexys as she pulled the other girl into a hug again, adding a long and languid kiss to her lips once again as they clung to one another. Alexys sighed with appreciation into her mouth as Kat somehow found her way onto her lap.
They sat like that for a long while, fingertips entangled into hair and kisses shared against tired lips as the pancakes in front of them were momentarily forgotten in favor of adoration. In favor of touch and love as Alexys nuzzled her girlfriend’s neck and placed a kiss against the soft skin, making her shudder as Kat’s hand traced patterns on her spine and she smiled.
“Silly fish,” Kat whispered with a laugh, “Of course I’ll always be here. You are mine, after all, and I love you more than anything... We’ll be like this for as long as we are together.”
Alexys felt her stomach clench in delight at the statement. She was hers... Kat was also hers, she knew. Every inch of their beings and souls had somehow entwined now, with the breath of that candle it was sealed.
“Forever?” Alexys wondered with a smile.
Kat laughed and nodded, her smile still warm as she embraced her in another kiss.
“Forever.”
This birthday, Alexys decided, was definitely one of the best.
Granted, Princess Amy had several fairy godmothers who gave her various gifts, but Crustacea gave her the gift of being Ordinary, which was definitely the most significant!

Technically she is not a fairy godmother because when she took the fairy godmother test she only scored fair. But she does the thing genies always do where your wish is granted in a way that sucks but she seems to believe that she's actually helping people so that's fun.
