okay look, i LOVE when people write Soap using scottish slang but as a fellow scot i need to inform you guys of this:

dinnae - do not/don’t

didnae - did not/didn’t

disnae - does not/doesn’t

they’re not interchangeable

pls i love the writing i just cannot bear to read one more line of him saying dinnae when you meant to use one of the other two (i’m not saying this to be an asshole, i just feel like u guys should know)

Hii! So I’ve been starting to write some cod fic’s (non posted) and I wanted to know if you could possibly post more Scottish slang or the most misspelled Scottish slang?

DISCLAIMER: I’M ONLY TELLING YOU WHAT I KNOW ABOUT ALL THIS THAT I PERSONALLY LEARNED FROM MY PARENTS, IF ANYONE HAS ANY CORRECTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO TACK THEM ON

I can give you some common words that specifically I use day to day to make it seem more natural in ur writing!

Starting off simple:

Cannae - cannot/can’t

Gonnae - going to/gonna

Willnae - will not/won’t

Shouldnae - should not/shouldn’t

Couldnae - could not/couldn’t

Wouldnae - would not/wouldn’t

Wasnae - was not/wasn’t

Intae- into

Tae - to

Nae - no, but only in the context of nae bother, nae danger

(Are you noticing the pattern?)

Much like the first three I posted about these are just in the same vain, not interchangeable and they’re just easy, subtle changes to show someone “hey look they’re Scottish”

Now onto my personal favourite words that may come in handy:

Bairn/wain - child

Bonnie - pretty/beautiful

Eejit - idiot, this one’s fun, common insult for us

Dour - grim/gloomy, can be used for most things tbh ie “work is pure dour the day”

Wheesht - shhh, or in a different context, shut the fuck up

Ken - know

Gan - going

Minging - disgusting

Haud/Hauld - hold, the spellings I believe are interchangeable, haud is more common these days tho I think

Heid - head

Greet - cry, the best way to use this is “dinnae greet” if you really wanna go full force with the slang

Peely wally - looking unwell/sick, this is my personal favourite, it can be used outside of the proper context, ie “that looks a bit peely wally eh?”

Een/eens - eye/eyes

Baith - both

Lug/lugs - ear/ears

Pure - very, but use this sparingly, it doesn’t always make sense when you throw it in willy nilly

Okay that’s all I can think of off the top of my head for now but if you need any advice on what context you can use these in that’ll make sense then feel free to dm me and I can talk it through with you :)
