Activities – What are their favorite things to do with you? How do you spend your free time?
He loves teaching you things. He gets really impatient and it can be hard, but he gets a lot of joy out of teaching you to play a simple song on guitar, a new dance move, etc. His face lights up so bright if you ask him to practice with you, and he gets so genuinely proud of you and excited when you’re able to master the song or the dance move that he showed you!
Boo! – How do they feel about surprises, giving and receiving?
Man loves surprises. He really likes it when your surprises involve kisses! He loves feeling your lips on his skin, your soft giggle in his ear.
If he’s surprising you, it’s very arrogant. Coming home early from tour so “you don’t miss him anymore,” video chatting or calling you so you can fall asleep to his voice.
Comfort – How do they comfort you when you’re upset? When the tables turn, do they come to you, or try to handle it themselves?
When you’re upset, he’ll cup your face and make you look him in the eyes. He’ll remind you how amazing you are, how much he cherishes you, and that there’s nothing he would ever change about you. He loves you. He’ll give you the sweetest and softest kiss you’ve ever received from him, and he’ll cuddle you as long as you need.
I think he would try to handle his feelings himself. You’d have to confront him firmly to get a decent chat out of him and he’ll be kinda blushy, shy, and defensive
Dance – Do they like to dance with you? How good of a dancer are they?
He loves dancing with you sm!!! Grinding in the club, slow dancing on your balcony, he’ll learn tango, salsa, or ballroom dance even if you ask him to! If you’re not much of a dancer, you can stand on the tops of his feet while you sway slowly to his soft humming.
Excitement – How do they act when they’re excited? What excites them?
When Kayn is excited he gets more boisterous and cocky. Banter levels up. Playfulness levels up. I feel like he’s the kind of guy that would pick you up and swing you around mid hug
Future – What are their plans for the future? Do they see themselves getting married, having kids?
I think he doesn’t really think about marriage or kids until you come around. It’s not until he actually realizes that he can’t live without you that he starts thinking about marriage. Once he’s there, he talks about it all the time. Kids aren’t really planned for, so if you have them, they were probably an accident… (He will love them more than anything)
Gifts – What do they give you as presents? How often do they get you gifts?
He likes buying you collars, writing songs for you, and loves to gift you things that you can both use (like cuddling under that new fleece blanket)
He gets you gifts fairly regularly. A little more than just special occasions, but not so often that they’re an expectation.
Hold – How do they hold you? Cuddling, sleeping, holding hands…
When sleeping, he holds you really close, noses pressed together, his hand pressed firmly against your back underneath your shirt, your leg over his hip.
He loves when you lay on top of him for cuddle time. Sometimes he’ll lay on top, squishing you with his weight
Hand holding isn’t really his go-to, but if he’s leading you somewhere or moving through a crowd then his hand is glued to yours. He would rather have an arm around your shoulders or hand on your lower back.
If you have back pockets, best believe his hand can be found there, especially if you guys are just standing around.
Ideal – What’s their ideal date like?
He actually really loves just sitting in his room with you and playing guitar. Don’t get him wrong, he absolutely loves going on adventures with you, being loud and boisterous and competitive… But his favourite dates are the ones that you can both just… be.
Jealousy – Do they get jealous easily? How do they handle it?
He’s a very jealous person, I think. Rhaast yelling in his head about everything he’s anxious about or yet to be anxious about and really urges him to lash out. He’ll apologize if he recognizes that he’s in the wrong, though
Kisses – How do they like to kiss you? How frequently do you kiss?
He kisses you like he’s drowning and needs you to breathe. You are the air in his lungs, the sun to his flowers, the moon to his sea. The best way to describe it, is that he kisses with his whole body, heart, and soul. He’ll pull you really close, press you against the wall or whatever surface you’re laying on so that there’s no space between you, practically suffocating each other, filling all of his senses with you. No kiss is complete without at least licking your lip. His tongue has to touch your lips or your own tongue for it to count, it’s his way of showing a little intimacy to make up for the moments he lacks.
He’ll kiss you as frequently as you’ll let him, save for his more romantic and soft kisses. Those are reserved only for you, he gets really embarrassed and defensive whenever someone catches him being soft with you
Love – How do they show you that they love you?
He very openly compliments you. Or pulls you into a hug or kiss. His softer side though is reserved only for you so his compliments, hugs, and kisses are gonna be more on the teasing side if there’s anyone nearby, but very sweet when you two are alone. He loves writing love songs for you. Also loves videochatting with you when you’re going to bed, especially if he’s on tour and can’t be there next to you.
Melt – What do you do that absolutely makes them melt?
He loves your banter, more than you’ll ever know. He loves teasing you, especially when you tease him back. He adores the competitive drive you get with him when you go to the arcade, or go-kart racing, and you can be a little mean, but he really loves it.
He also loves really mundane things, like waking up next to you, looking at you when you’re focused on something. Your whole face, really, and the expressions you make are just so cute!
Nicknames – What do they call you, and what are their favorite things to be called?
He enjoys really arrogant nicknames: “musical genius,” “sexy,” “handsome,” etc
For you, he keeps it simple. He thinks you’re perfect and wants to remind you of that so he tends to call you things like “beautiful,” “my angel,” “sweet thing”
Obvious – How obvious do they make it that they like you?
He thinks he’s really subtle and hiding it well, but he’s like an excited puppy whenever you’re around. His eyes light up, he stands a little taller, back a little straighter, devilish smirk on his lips as soon as he sees you. Even if you haven’t spotted him yet. He’s like 95% more likely to spot you first anyway
Pets – Do they have pets? Do they want them?
He’s a dog guy through and through. Loves dogs. Wants aaaaaallllllll the dogs. Is also open to more exotic animals and reptiles!
Quiet – How are the calm, quiet moments with them?
Quiet and calm moments with him are… your favourite. He can be him. Not Rhaast, not the Kayn everyone gets to see on stage or out and about… Him. His music is softer, his touch is more gentle, even his kisses seem sweeter. These moments are… slow. More thought out. He’ll play guitar quietly for you, maybe even sing a pretty and slow tune if he’s really feeling it. He’ll hold you close while watching a romance movie, dozing off peacefully from how content he feels just holding you. These are also the times he may take you to the roof to stargaze, or plan a picnic in a field of flowers, hike near a river…
Romance – How romantic are they? What are their go-to ways of being romantic?
If it’s just you two, he can be so romantic! Always wants to be touching you in some way, loves treating you to lunch or dinner. Intimate times can be quite romantic if he gives himself enough time to plan for it. Roses, candles… He’s also written a couple of love songs for you<3
Safe – What makes them feel safe and comfortable around you?
You accept him for who he is, which has been hard for him to find in his life.
Tend – How do they act when you’re hurt or sick, and vice versa?
He doesn’t know what to do if you’re sick. Please call Yone. Or better yet, Sett’s mom.
If you’re hurt, he becomes very protective and antsy, especially if someone else hurt you. If it’s a wee little papercut though he’ll baby you as much as you let him. He’ll tease you a lot though.
If he’s sick, you’re gonna want everyone’s hands on deck. He is big baby and hates being sick. He’ll pretend like he didn’t just throw up, or that he definitely does NOT have snot hanging from his nose. You have to force him to lay down and relax, force feed him soup, make him some tea. He is a very pathetic sick person.
If he’s hurt, it’s a big deal. Very dramatic boy, very cute pout. He gets so angry but honesetly it’s hysterical (unless directed at you, then you might cry and then he’ll feel bad and might also cry)
Unique – What’s an unusual thing about them that’s oddly charming?
Rhaast. He’s mean and energetic and demanding, but for whatever reason he actually loves you??? He gets really handsy and you have to yell at him, but also really likes when you take your anger and frustrations out on him
Variety – Do they prefer to keep things the same, or spice it up?
He really enjoys spicing things up! He’s very adventurous
Wash – What’s it like taking a bath with them, or helping them wash up after a fight?
There are two types of baths:
1. Soft and intimate baths. He’ll relax with you, maybe have a candle or two lit, bath salts and oils added to the hot water. His fingers will softly explore your skin, just enjoying loving on you and being quiet
2. Sexy baths. The water is a little warmer than room temperature, only filled about halfway, he wants desperately to feel you. Heated kisses, really handsy
There is also shower time. He might wash your hair, but generally this gets really handsy so I suggest showering separately if you want to properly wash or shave
XO – How do they show you affection? How much PDA are they willing to show?
PDA is very teasing: a hand in your back pocket, sneaky tongue kisses, an arm around your waist or shoulders… Dies if anyone sees his soft side though.
Yearn – What do they do when they miss you?
He gets really snappy (compared to usual) when he misses you</3 he also paces more. Rhaast gets really mean, fueling Kayn’s anxieties about his relationship with you.
Zzz – How do they act when they get sleepy? How is it sleeping in the same bed? I feel like he gets so clingy and grumpy when he’s sleepy

Type: FLUFF (with slight frank discussion of unprotected sex and v slight suggestive undertones at one point.)
Gender: Not necessarily specified but mention of carrying a pregnancy and such (though sex does not equal gender as we all know).

Extra context: In this instance we’re assuming a well-settled relationship. Like cohabitation and shit.
So the start of this really depends on on an important factor: Is the baby planned? Because while I think Kayn’s course of action and thoughts would eventually line up on the same path regardless if the baby is planned or not, his initial reaction I could see being SUPER different. In this scenario, let’s say the baby isn’t planned:
Now of course Kayn knew there was a risk. Both of you did. No matter how prepared and careful both of you were before/while/after having sex, nothing is truly 100% effective at preventing a pregnancy besides abstinence. And let’s be so for real, abstinence and Kayn are like oil and water. Also it’s not like you didn’t want him. You certainly enjoyed yourself as much as he did.
And sure he’d thought a little bit about an accidental baby.
But not MUCH. And he certainly didn’t expect it to actually happen.
So when you tell him the news and show him the positive pregnancy test, it’s almost like he’s hit by lighting.
Kayn freezes, his wide eyes glued to the positive pregnancy test in your hand. “P-pregnant? Holy shit, (Y/N), you’re pregnant?
You sigh and nod. “Y-yeah…and I-I don’t know what to do…I don’t know what you want to do. I kn-know this isn’t r-really part of our p-plans right n-now. I-I wasn’t positive that’s what was g-going on until I took the s-second test today...” your voice fades off and your bottom lip wobbles ever so slightly.
The change in your voice has him looking back at your face, and seeing the distress in your eyes, Kayn quickly, but gently, reaches out and pulls you to him, wrapping you in a tight hug. He realizes this is as much of a shock to you as it is to him.
As you burrow against his shoulder and let out a sniffle, he kisses the top of your head. “Hey…hey, it’s okay, angel,” he murmurs. “Please don’t cry…please don’t cry, baby…I’m just surprised, that’s all. Yes this isn’t what we planned for right now, but I guess when the hell does life ever go according to plan?”
“Y-you’re not upset? Or mad?” your voice trembles.
Kayn gently makes you look at him, pecking your lips softly. “Baby, why would I be upset or mad? It’s not like you’re at fault for anything. I was just as much involved in this. Besides, we talked about the possibility of having kids in the future. And while we didn’t expect this part of our future to come so soon, what I know is you’re the person I want to have my future with. I love you. You make me the best version of myself and I can’t see my future with anyone else but you. If you want to have this baby, then I’ll be right next to you the entire way, helping you kick pregnancy’s ass and we’ll raise the coolest and most badass kid anyone has ever met.”
You let out a little laugh at that and wipe your eyes.
He grins at your reaction. “So don’t worry about what I want. Because all I want is for you to be happy, (Y/N). Whatever you want to do, I love you and I’m with you all the way.” He emphasizes his point with a kiss to your forehead.
Kayn’s reaction was better than you could have ever imagined. And you know he means everything he said, so…you and him decide to become parents.
And while of course becoming a father meant some things had to change, it wasn’t as big of a behavior shift as one might think.
He’d already given up drinking/substances (sober!Kayn headcanon returns!) and he wasn’t as much of a party animal as he used to be before he met and fell in love with you. He wasn’t kidding when he said you bring out the best version of himself.
Can you imagine Kayn telling the rest of Heartsteel the news? (I think he’d tell them early on since he’d want to be able to go to your appointments and such.) Their mix of shock and glee.
Ezreal: *Nearly levitating in excitement* “No fucking way!!! Wait can I be the godfather??? I call dibs on being the godfather!!”
Everyone else: *Jaws dropped, eyes wide, and staring at Kayn. Yone’s second cold brew of the day is now splattered on the floor.* (😂)
Kayn: *frowns* “What?? Turns out the idea of being a dad actually sounds pretty cool...”
*Raucous cheering commences and Kayn becomes the bottom of a dog pile of happy band mates/friends*
And trust, he’s keeping all of Heartsteel updated on how you’re doing. They are now very used to Kayn rambling on and on about your last appointment, how the nursery is going, how big the baby is this week, etc…
You might not expect it, but he’s super involved in your appointments, asking your OBGYN all sorts of questions. He’s genuinely curious and he wants to make sure he learns and understands as much as possible.
He will take off as much time as necessary to take you to appointments and Lamaze classes. Thankfully the rest of Heartsteel understands and they are cool with it.
And when Kayn sees the tiny blob at your first ultrasound, you notice him discreetly clear his throat as he hugs you tightly.
You quickly realize this kid has their father already wrapped around their little finger…and their little finger isn’t even developed yet!
Surprisingly excellent at helping you through bouts of morning sickness. He’s happy to hold back your hair if need be, and he’ll always help you straighten/freshen up once you’re through a spell.
Wasn’t prepared for the hormonal mood swings at first, tbh. The first time you burst into tears over a cute little kitten video, Kayn was genuinely a little alarmed. But he quickly realized what was going on.
Your crazy cravings don’t phase him. He’s always down to run out and grab you whatever food you want.
And not just food either. He’s ready to run out and grab any kind of supplies for you (though he very jokingly complains about it. But he makes it very clear he’s just kidding and he doesn’t actually mind).
And despite all the physical changes to your body, Kayn makes it clear he still finds you attractive. He makes that VERY clear. 😉
Being with you already brought his soft side out. That just increases exponentially while you’re pregnant. Kayn absolutely loves to play the guitar for you and the baby. He’ll play lullabies while you two are unwinding from the day. (If you sing, sing along with him because oh my god it makes him so happy when you do. He’d love to pass on a love of music to this baby early.)
And when he’s not playing guitar, he’s reading through the absolute mountain of parenting books he bought/borrowed from the library.
He’s trying to be as prepared as humanly possible. But there’s also an underlying anxiety to his obsessive reading. The last thing he wants is to let you or the baby down. Be sure to reassure him you believe he’ll be a good dad.
(In the Heartsteel universe we’re not exactly told what Zed is to Heartsteel!Kayn, but considering his role and the relationship between the two in base Runeterra lore, I’m imagining Zed as Kayn’s adoptive father.)
He’s calling Zed often and asking him for advice. And Zed is ready to assist you if Kayn is busy with Heartsteel or out of town for something. Just text him.
Kayn’s super eager to find out the sex of the baby. One of the first questions he asked the OBGYN was “How long until we know whether it’s a boy or girl?”
He doesn’t have a preference one way or the other, he just wants to know. The baby will be so loved regardless.
So once the two of you are at the 20-week ultrasound appointment, he’s so excited to finally get an answer.
And when the OBGYN reveals the baby is a girl? Holy shit Kayn’s so thrilled. He’s so happy he starts crying and laughing as he hugs you. (Tough bad boy becoming the biggest girl dad oh my GODDDDDDD 😭.)
And now that he knows the sex of the baby, this man is going to go OFF when it comes to buying things for her.
He found a black onesie with a pink skull and crossbones (with a bow) that says “Punk Rock Girl.” He bought four.
And once it’s time for the baby to come? Kayn is incredible. There’s a small wave of panic at the beginning because “holy fuck oh my god it’s actually fucking happening.” But he quickly realizes that panicking won’t help shit in this scenario. So he takes you to the pre-packed car (that he did himself and triple checked), takes a deep breath, and gets you to the hospital.
Kayn is your biggest advocate in the hospital. He’s making sure you are being listened to when it comes to how you’re feeling and what you want.
He’s encouraging you the whole way. Leading you through your Lamaze techniques, telling you to squeeze his hand as hard as you need to, and encouraging you to swear as much as you need to.
And even when you start cursing him out from pain for being “a god damn sexy and charismatic jackass and doing this to me, putting me in this position,” he keeps his cool, instead apologizing to you and telling you he’s right here and that he loves you.
Once it’s time for you to push, Kayn is right next to you, wiping your forehead, making sure you’re taking deep breaths, and counting you into pushes.
“Look at me, (Y/N). Eyes on me.” Kayn’s voice is gentle but urgent as he gently puts his finger on your chin and turns your head towards him. “That’s it, beautiful. Holy shit, you’re doing so well. I love you so much and I’m so fucking proud of you. Like doc said, one more big push and she’ll be out. Deep breath. I’ll count down from three and when I say “push” you give it all you got, okay? Ready? Alright angel, let’s meet our little girl. Breathe in....and 3…..2…..1…..push!”
And you do it. You give one final push and out she comes, squalling loudly, covered in vernix (newborn goop).
And Kayn finally lets all his emotions go, hugging you tightly and nuzzling your neck as he starts to tear up.
His voice is muffled against your neck. “I’m so fucking proud of you, (Y/N). She’s here….our daughter is here.” He lets out a happy laugh and kisses your forehead, gently wiping away your tears. “You alright, Angel? Can I get you anything?”
You hug him tightly, exhausted but happy, shaking your head. "Not besides babygirl. How is she?”
He nods. "They’re getting her cleaned off. (Y/N), she is perfect. Absolutely perfect. Just like you.”
The L&D nurse walks over. “Dad? Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?”
Kayn’s face lights up and he smiles at you. “Hell yeah…”
The sight of your partner carefully cutting your daughter’s umbilical cord is extremely sweet. He's being so careful, almost as if he's afraid he'll accidentally hurt her.
And as he looks down at her tiny form, he swears to himself right then and there, he's not letting anyone or anything harm her.
And once they hand her to you and you gently tease him as his happy tears fall, he just looks up at you with a grin, not even trying to play his tears off as "dust in my eyes" like he sometimes does.
You can’t help but laugh as he comments on her lung capacity and how she’s already ready to be a singer.
"She's what, not even ten minutes old and she already beats Ezreal's lung capacity and his higher range! He's gonna be so fucking jealous!"
(A/N: Ok so I know I stopped with Sett’s at the hospital right after labor, but I have an extra tidbit for Kayn’s and I NEED to write it down.)
You know how when athletes/musicians have babies/little kids, the other parent might bring them to cheer on the famous parent but they cover their ears with really strong noise-cancelling headphones to protect their ears/hearing?
Imagine doing that for Kayn at Heartsteel shows!!! Dressing up baby girl in a small version of his paranoia jacket with custom Kayn-designed stitching on the back (courtesy of Sett).
And imagine if Kayn got custom ear protection for her. And on each earphone is a print of his Rhaast mask, matching the custom necklace he bought you early on in your relationship. “So everyone knows who's with me.”
Ah! That would be so fucking cool. And when he sees the two of you the first time you bring her, oh my god, his heart is ready to burst. Especially when you blow him a kiss and wave one of her little hands at him. Kayn can’t help but grin like an absolutely besotted idiot for a second. Honestly you two being at his shows to cheer him on is his favorite thing. It reminds him why he does what he does. For his little family.

he lived in the shadows. he himself was a shadow. it was his home - no entity would be able to deprive him of the darkness. so, that's where kayn used to stay all the time. shunned from the very beginning of his existence, forced to cruelty at young age, the murkiness was something that he could count on. the dark was the only stable thing in his life, as it would never leave.
the whole ordeal with rhaast only doubled his gloominess. well, what else could he expect? with a war raging inside of him, demon-like creature trying to take over his body - there was no place for light. but even with the demonic creature possessing him, he found bits of comfort in the shadows. hearing the mocking laugh was way easier to ignore and bear without the light.
light could symbolise gods - and that was something that he'd stay away from. even though he defied his noxian roots and embraced the ionian culture, kayn still remained sceptic. gods have left him to rot, and that was obvious. which god would even allow this to happen? the wars, the destruction... which deity would be proud of such things happening under its watch? the logical answer is none, but even kayn, especially kayn knows that even the unbelievable things are bound to happen either way.
one of such things would be falling in love - the idea of stripping oneself of everything and giving all to the other person was a thought repulsing enough for kayn. there was no place to put trust into other person in his grim life. was he even capable of gentleness in the first place? an obvious answer - no. what if he lost control of himself and rhaast would permanently be in charge? the idea alone was hardy bearable, but thinking what would the cruel darkin do to his significant other... this was enough to make him reject all close relationships - except the one with his master, obviously. and soon, there was another exception.
you. even though he put walls all around him and he kept you as far away as possible, you didn't back down and still remained at his side, no matter how far he would go to do anything to make you realise he isn't good for you, but his playful façade only attracted you more. after all, even though he really wanted to be left alone and return to his comfortably numb darkness, kayn couldn't let go of his pride. but once, he went too far - almost slicing you with his scythe, stopping himself moments before disaster. seeing your terrified gaze made kayn feel something he never felt before; actual longing and pain. despite the darkin trying to argue, he threw the weapon away and engrossed you in his embrace.
and from that day on - you've stepped onto the path of relentless pursuit of the greatness, but also of a world made purely out of shadows. being engulfed by the dark mist wasn't as bad as it may sound like, especially when the haze was accompanied by kayn's hands, touching your body in a way you'd never let anyone. on a particularly bad night, he would step out of the wall -with the dark, mystic fog sticking to him just like a tattoo- and lull you to sleep, whispering sweet nothings into your ear and delicately sliding his arms down your sides. nothing has ever been so soothing before, despite the sharpness of his corrupted arm.
and even though in the shadows it was just he, himself, alone - in the wisp of dark, the abyssal land; where no mortal eyes would reach and the luminosity prohibited from entering, as soon as you'll call his name you can be sure kayn will leave his chilly places he calls home to grant every of your wishes, even if it means leaving the comfort of his so-called home, though there is no place that he's rather be at than anywhere with you.

I’ll use “Yanléi,” “Order of Shadows,” and “Shadow Order” interchangeably. They refer to the same organization. ALSO. Like let’s be so for real the Order of Shadows isn’t exactly…good. Everyone in the Shadow Order knows who Shieda Kayn is. How could they not? Master Zed’s protégé, the next in line to lead the Order, the infamous “Shadow Reaper,” his accolades in relation to the Yanléi go on and on. There’s always so much attention on him.
Which makes it even funnier that nearly the entire order hasn’t figured out its rising star is in a secret relationship with a different one of its members and has been for like two years now.
That member being you.
Then again you’re not a member who is typically in the constant spotlight of the order. Quite the opposite, in fact.
You are another acolyte, like Kayn, and the apprentice of Mistress Shi, the Shadowseer of the Yanléi. Unlike most of the Order of Shadows, who use their shadow magic to assist in combat, you and her primarily use your abilities for experiencing and understanding prophetic visions related to the Order.
So not only do your day-to-day tasks keep you away from most members of the order, but you’re also supposed to keep quiet unless discussing things with Mistress Shi, Master Zed, and, as of about a year ago (when Zed officially decided who would be the next master of the Yanléi), Kayn. (Though you’d been talking to him quite a bit before this point but we’ll get into that in a second.)
But going back a bit, your first introduction to the famed shadow reaper was quite an interesting one.
Despite your primary tasks within the order, you still are trained to fight, and you fight extremely well. After all, Master Zed believes very member of the Order must be able to defend themselves.
So one afternoon, not too long after you joined the order, Kayn was looking for a sparring partner. A tall task as not many people want to go up against him, even just sparring.
So Zed, who noticed him, motioned you over to where Kayn is, introducing you and suggesting he spar with you.
Kayn had already snap judged your abilities once he heard your future role in the order, and he was not-so-subtly complaining to Zed about pairing him with you. (A/N: Now listen I love Kayn but he can be quite arrogant.)
His complaints were quickly cut short though as you reached over, yanked him closer, then flipped him over your shoulder and slammed him onto the floor of the training room, looking at him with a raised eyebrow as if to say, “You were saying, asshole?”
Zed just watched this go down with a chuckle.
(Needless to say much later on in your relationship Kayn would realize that moment was the moment he fell head over heels for you [pun fully intended].)
You quickly became his favorite sparring partner. Despite your focus on training your shadow magic to see visions, you had an excellent mastery of many different types of weapons and fighting styles and you never took it easy on him.
But you were always so….quiet. You never even had reactions of pain when he managed to land a hit on you while sparring.
Because of this, it didn’t take long for Kayn’s curiosity in you to grow.
So he tried to get you to talk to him. He just couldn’t help it. As he got to know you he desperately wanted to hear what your voice sounded like, building all sorts of scenarios in his brain. But you’d only respond with non-verbal communication, or you’d write down notes and give them to him.
Eventually, through sparring and being a menace (affectionate), Kayn managed to wear your resolve down enough to where you pulled him to an empty room in the temple and murmured a soft threat to him about shoving his training sword down his throat if he didn’t stop trying to get you to talk
But like…honestly the way his face lit up and the soft hint of earnest excitement in his voice as he smirked and whispered, “So that’s what you sound like…now I finally know….”
(He activated his trap card and you walked right into it.)
That crumbled your resolve completely. And you began talking to him regularly, though you had to find excuses to get you two in a position where no one would suspect you were talking. (You two were suddenly able to land quite a few more hits on each other in training. And you both suddenly seemed to get a few more minor injuries that the other would have to take a closer look at, you know, since he/you caused them. It was only right.)
You two were quite proud of yourselves, thinking you were able to get away with it all.
(Btw Zed and Mistress Shi absolutely knew what was happening. They just didn’t stop it because tbh they were extremely curious where this thing between the two of you would go. And besides, your future roles within the order would lead to you two talking anyway so whatever.)
This “thing” slowly turned into something more as you eventually opened up to each other and got to know each other beyond sparring partners.
You became friends, and then eventually, even more.
(Oh and your first kiss with Kayn came when you were hovering over him after flipping him over your shoulder. He reached up, gently pulled you down, and just kissed you. And he was thrilled when you kissed him back. One of the very few moments in Shieda Kayn’s life where he’s ever been….giddy.)
So how is it having the shadow reaper as your partner? Well…
You bring out the soft side in him, and to be honest, that really freaked him out at first.
He’s had to be a tough guy all his life, so to feel soft affection for someone was a whole new experience for him. But eventually he realized it was a good thing, having someone who loved him for himself, having someone to be vulnerable with, having someone he can laugh or cry freely around.
Kayn is surprisingly clingy. Which makes keeping things “secret” a bit difficult at times. (You’re definitely trying harder than he is.)
You’ve had to hiss at him to stop giving you bedroom eyes in public while you patch him up from sparring. Or gently swat his hand away when he instinctively tries to take yours when you’re walking together in the temple during the day.
Occasionally you and Kayn travel together outside the temple to enjoy the nature surrounding it (under the guise of “using the nature of Ionia to better connect with the shadow visions.” And “If (Y/N) is going to do that, then it’s only right for me to go with. I can defend them the best from an ambush”).
Mhmmm yup totally not an excuse to go find more time during the day to cuddle under a tree, be very openly affectionate, and talk normally to each other. Nope totally not that at all, why would you even think such a preposterous thing? 😉
Kayn is protective of you. Spirit of Ionia help any acolyte who accidentally hurts you while sparring. You’ve had to talk him down from the warpath a couple times. (“Kayn, it was just an accident. You’ve landed far worse hits on me when we spar and I’ve been fine.” Or “There’s no need to threaten him, baby…besides, he looked worse by the time I was done with him!”)
He denies it when you try and tease him, but you swear you see him pout when he has to spar with a different person because you’re already paired up with someone.
Not that he has anything to worry about, and he knows that. He just doesn’t think any of the other acolytes are worth your skills. You’re way too talented to fight them.
He’s very serious about protecting you during a vision, too. During your visions, you essentially lose consciousness. The first time you had a vision around Kayn, you two were sparring when suddenly you just collapsed (thankfully against him so he could catch you). Seeing you unconscious with the black tattoos on your arms writhing like snakes, giving off black, shadowy smoke admittedly rattled him pretty severely.
(And that vision? Well that vision was of the Darkin weapons. Including the location in Noxus of the Darkin scythe containing Rhaast.)
That incident was one of the first full visions you had. So you weren’t sure what to expect at the time, but since then you’ve learned the signs of an oncoming vision, as well as how to better control them. As soon as you tell Kayn it feels like one is coming, he takes you somewhere safe and is basically your loyal guard dog.
And once you come to he’s always waiting with water and a little snack for you. (How sweet.)
Lots of small stolen moments and stolen kisses throughout the day. (This man loves to kiss you oh my goodness. He wants to kiss you as much as physically possible.)
At night, when Kayn is not on a mission, you’ll be getting ready for bed and he’ll just come through the wall of your room using his shadow magic and happily spend the night chatting and such with you. (He’s primarily the small spoon btw, though if you need him to be the big spoon now and then, just ask.)
Will not leave your room the next morning until you give him a “have a good day” kiss. He claims it has become his good luck charm for the day.
He’s so dramatic about it too lol. Kayn will wait for his kiss by the door, and once you come over and he kisses you breathless, he just chuckles and slips away in a cloud of shadowy smoke, going through the closed door to go back to his room. (He is a TEASE omg.)
One of the surprisingly sweet things Kayn does is bring you a flower/flowers whenever he can, especially when he’s coming home from a mission. He loves how flowers make you smile.
Oh and Kayn LOVES when you play with his hair. When he’s had a really tough day, he’ll bring his hair brush along with him when he comes to your room, just quietly holding it out to you. As soon as you take it and sit him down on your bed so you can work behind him, he already starts to visibly relax.
