🌖All you wanted were a few flowers that bloomed at night near the lake. They were rare, beautiful enough to catch anyone's eye, and they were the perfect finishing touch for the decoration you had in mind.

🌖That these flowers only bloomed at midnight was just a detail.

🌖 And that the lake where they grew was part of a Solari camp was only another detail.

🌖 (Oh, really. I hope all the risk you're about to take for these beautiful flowers will be worth it.)

🌖 Silence reigned among the tents and cabins, and your stealthy effort to reach the lake finally bore fruit: the delicate flower rested between your fingers. Its fragrance was so sweet and intoxicating that it invited you closer to the pale petals, which sought to reflect the few beams of moonlight strong enough to pierce the dense rain clouds of that night.

🌖 And then the buzzing hit your ear, so fast that you barely had time to notice the glaring light in the darkness that almost struck your face.

🌖 And it would have, if Severum hadn't been wielded by Aphelios just meters away.

🌖 Somewhere behind you, a Solari sentinel fell.

🌖 Another beam of light. Another target. Another thud.

🌖 One by one, before alarms could sound and the soldiers inside the cabins noticed the attack, all the guards lay fallen.

🌖 In nervousness and confusion, you pressed the flower against your chest, crushing the fragile petals.

🌖 Aphelios approached, and as he advanced, the clouds began to break, and little by little the full moonlight bathed the ground, following his steps toward you—until his shadow touched you.

🌖 The moment he noticed your nervousness, Aphelios relaxed his shoulders; you weren't a threat, he wouldn't need to kill—not until the moon commanded it, of course.

🌖 You waited for him to say something. He noticed that you were waiting for him to say something. But all the boy could do was soften the expression of pain from still feeling the poison burning in his throat.

🌖 If you weren't a threat, not a target, not a Solari disguised as a pale, frightened woman, then Aphelios had no reason to keep staring at you; as soon as he turned his back, he noticed the melted flower between your fingers.

🌖 That froze him in place, his expression giving way to a youthful face weighed down by burdens far beyond his age.

🌖 He knew those flowers. He had several in the temple near what he called home; Alune and he used to play among them when they were younger.

🌖 You notice his attention on the flower in your hand, and you start to feel uneasy about it. Would he use that strange purple weapon on you for picking a tiny flower from the ground?

🌖 He raised a hand into the air, near his face, and for two heartbeats you thought the answer would be: yes.

🌖 But the moonlight began to condense into particles of light in Aphelios' hand, shaping a flower like the one you sought, only more shimmering, more alive, more beautiful.

🌖 In Aphelios' mind, Alune's voice whispered: "The moon speaks for you, brother."

🌖 And without another hesitation, he held out the new flower to you.

🌖 The poor boy didn't understand how he instinctively knew he should give it to you. Even more confusing was Alune claiming that the moon itself wanted to tell you something through that gesture. But just as the full moon was a symbol of mystery wrapped in white light, perhaps you were the new mystery illuminating his path.

🐻‍❄️ To begin, choose your most important motivation: it's the reason you end up crossing paths with Volibear — or he with you. Fate likes to play tricks, especially on protagonists.

🐻‍❄️ Whether it's family, friends, a valuable object, or a personal mission... you are trapped in the heart of an ice storm. And there you realize just how small and fragile you truly are before the wild power of Freljord's frozen nature.

🐻‍❄️ What gives you strength to push against the pandemonium of hail and wind is the goal waiting for you on the other side of the mountain. And only a heart that determined can burn hot enough to keep a human body staggering so many kilometers into the storm.

🐻‍❄️ Without warning or hesitation, he lifts you into his arms; your fragile human body carefully cradled between the claws of the giant bear. The overwhelming heat radiating from Volibear's fur warms you again within seconds.

🐻‍❄️ The demi-god did not smile, but the gesture had purpose: he placed great value on fiercely determined souls like yours, and he would not allow such a light to be extinguished by a mere ice storm.

🐻‍❄️ While other humans flee to hide and protect themselves, you chose to face nature's brutal force head-on; Volibear could not let a human like that be lost so easily.

For a brief flicker, you felt hope.

Yunara seemed capable—through unimaginable effort—of containing that demon.But that hope lasted only until the first chain appeared. You and Seneschal were working skillfully to keep the maiden safe from the strange woman who attacked from the shadows, yet it wasn't enough. You were thrown to the ground at the same moment Yunara was captured, and the demon was free once more. When your vision finally refocused, Seneschal stood on the brink of death.

Your world slowed to a crawl as you realized his suicidal intent—reaching for the Darkin blade. The thought drove you forward, ignoring the pain of your wounds as you hurled yourself toward him.For a fraction of a second—less than that—he touched the cold object before you could.

It was too late.

His body began to change. You were close enough to feel the heat wash over your skin, unsettling—and yet infinitely far from the man you had known as Seneschal.

Before you could fully process the transformation, the Darkin's eyes opened, already fixing the demon as his target.

The strike that cleaved the shadow creature in two also sent you crashing backward. Your heart pounded with the primal terror of prey recognizing the presence of a perfect predator. You knew, without understanding any of the deeper truths, that a single movement would be enough for him to crush you just as effortlessly as he had split the demon apart.

When the dust and shadows settled, an unsettling silence followed—wrong and hollow after the violent terror that had filled the air moments before.

The one now known as Zaahen turned toward the fallen Yunara, his imposing presence pressing heavily against the air itself, demanding instinctive reverence.

The faint rustle of your clothes against the ground as you tried to rise drew his attention, your eyes crossing with his.And they lingered on you a moment longer.

A detail meaningless to you... but not to Zaahen.

For several heartbeats, you waited.You waited for your fear to be proven true—that this Darkin had succumbed to corruption, just as his brothers had.

You waited for the blade to be raised against you.

You did not wait for the moment when Zaahen stepped forward, setting his feet gently upon the ground, directly before you.

"Your intent was noble and ideal, little human."

The gesture that followed—his hand extending toward you—was deeply disorienting.

"But your companion's desire cried louder."

Tears stung your eyes as the weight of his words settled.

Seneschal had been lost... so that this Darkin might manifest.

Shaken by the realization, you accepted the offered support. To you, lifting your own body felt like dragging a crushing weight from the earth, uncertain whether the acceptance came from necessity—or from the part of you that still searched for traces of Seneschal within this towering form.

Zaahen's touch, however, was disturbingly gentle—like helping fallen flowers rise with the wind.

When you and Xin Zhao had touched the blade — even if your moment came later — he felt it when your fragile skin finally met the weapon that imprisoned him.

He sensed the whispers of your spirit, nearly manifesting alongside him as it had with Senescal.

And more unsettling still ...

... was the faint brush of a cool breeze he perceived within the blade, at the exact moment you reached him.

some small headcanons I got for the forest god au by @llamagoddessofficial

Please note that all the things stated down there are NOT canon, but headcanons I made up as I aggressively scourged down every bit of information I found about this au, thank you very much :)

also I’ll be heavily focusing on my favorite boy Skull (I’ll just call him Horror for now because I can handle it better) here, because why not, I love him 

Sans is not opposed of letting humans do their thing. If they wander his territory, they wander his territory. He’s even turned humans fae if they showed devotion to him. Some have started a cult about him, and he finds it amusing enough to let it continue. And hey, they even protect his forest FOR HIM, so all he really has to do is care for the fae and animals, not if trees get cut down or rivers get dammed. He can just sit back and relax, and have the enjoyment of humans running around for him. He doesn’t consider it to be selfish- heck, he never showed himself to them, he didn’t start the cult. That’s on them.

 He viewed the cult as… family, to some degree. After all, he turned some into his kind. After the forest of a fellow deity was lost t the humans and then the deities wrath, he watched the cult fall apart. They left his forest, leaving him to feel abandoned by them. He TRUSTED them. He never showed himself to the most of them, but he still LIKED them. They were like the most of family he ever had. And now they were gone.

Red likes humans. We all know that. But over the centuries, as they evolved, he watched them closely. So closely, that when you are fortunate enough to enter his core domain, you are faced with ancient human machines. Old pictures of random people in surprisingly good health for being tucked away in a tree in the middle of a forest. If you want to get an item of yours back after loosing it in the forest, you must trade it with him (dipping into the fae aspect here, hehe). He allows humans to stay in his domain, at least at its edges. But those that live there whisper about how many things go missing regularly. That bird that grasped your hunting knife as you left it unsupervised? Sent by the local deity. The fox pulling a bag of different tools? Reds personal thief. The deer eyeing the self made pouch of multiple layers- you get the idea.

Horror wasn’t always a hulking multilegged creature that resembles beasts. Before his rage took over, he was a humanoid deity, like the others. He allowed humans to wander through his territory and hunt and forage to a certain extent, and those that exhausted their stay just wouldn’t find any more. No more berries on the sides of the path, no more deer trails to follow. Similar to Red, he finds humans intriguing, but in a slightly different way. While Red wants to know all about the human race, Horror is content with letting them into his forest without having them fear for their safety. He allows them to hunt and forage, but no one dares to set up a permanent home there. A camp for the night, sure, but anything that indicates a longer stay than a full moon cycle will be left without food or other resources soon enough, alongside great rain and extreme temperatures that only worsen the longer the human stay.

Anyone who dares exhaust their stay even AFTER he told his animals to evade the human, made the plants temporarily close their flowers when the human was around… they learn to never upset a god the hard way. Every step they take makes water seep into their boots that never dry again. Every plant they decide to pick, it either wilts before they can consume it, or it makes them sick. The animals they slaughter put up a vicious fight. Arrows don’t harm the animals anymore. The meat turns bad in a heartbeat, or it infects the hunter with diseases or parasites. Horror allows humans to redeem themselves if they move out when he tells them, but if you decide to exhaust his hospitality even after his warning signs? You have been cast out for your life.

Horror liked his fae-underlings. He allowed them to toy with humans, but only to a certain degree. He refrained from turning humans to fae, because they could get the wrong idea. But there are stories about a certain human who was granted a special connection to his forest, and his forest alone.

Activities – What are their favorite things to do with you? How do you spend your free time?

He loves when you accompany him to the gym or for jogs. He also loves when you cook or bake together. Sometimes you work on personal projects while he sews the holes in your clothes.

Boo! – How do they feel about surprises, giving and receiving?

He loves surprises!

Comfort – How do they comfort you when you’re upset? When the tables turn, do they come to you, or try to handle it themselves?

He’s not entirely sure what to do when you’re upset, other than just let you feel whatever it is you’re feeling. He’s not trying to fix your problem, give you advice you didn’t ask for, or play devil’s advocate. But he will listen if you want to talk, and if you want him to give you advice he will, but he’d much rather just hold you. Let out your feelings!

If he’s upset, I think it could go either way. When he is feeling upset, just give him a big hug and some praises, do something special maybe like sneak a little letter into his wallet for him to find while away, and tell him you love him. Sometimes he just needs a little space though to think.

Dance – Do they like to dance with you? How good of a dancer are they?

Loves dancing with you! He’s a giant so “dancing” often translates to him picking you up and swinging you around to whatever song is playing. He loves feeling you pressed against him like this, swaying together to some slow songs with your head on his chest, your hand in his

Excitement – How do they act when they’re excited? What excites them?

If he has a tail, it’s wagging furiously. Open mouth smile, eyes twinkling, can’t sit still. Just envision an excited puppy and that’s him.

He loves seeing you at his shows, when you surprise him at the hotel, when he sees you for the first time after a long time of being away, the way you pout cutely when you’re cold (he loooooves warming you up)

Future – What are their plans for the future? Do they see themselves getting married, having kids?

I think he craves domesticity. Don’t get him wrong, he loves his life as a hot shot rapper, but after meeting you? To him, it’s not about the rings adorning your fingers. It’s the unconditional love you have for each other, the desire to make each other’s lives easier, happier, more fulfilling.

He would have a whole litter of kids and I’ll die on this hill. More on this in his nsfw alphabet!

Gifts – What do they give you as presents? How often do they get you gifts?

He loves gifting you things his mom knits be it a matching beanie, an ugly Christmas sweater, etc. He also loves getting you cute little plushies or keychains from new places when on tour. He gets you gifts fairly often, more so when he knows he’s gonna be away traveling for a while

Hold – How do they hold you? Cuddling, sleeping, holding hands…

He loves holding your hand, it’s so much smaller than his. You are so much smaller than him. Honestly he just loves the size difference and loves anything that exaggerates it. Piggy backs, spooning, lifting you as part of his workout (you practically weigh nothing to him so it’s more just for fun)

He thinks it’s so funny though when you try to be the big spoon for him. You’re so small? You want to protect him? Keep him safe? You’re just so adorable

Ideal – What’s their ideal date like?

He likes going on adventures with you like hiking, skating, exploring a new part of town, going to the beach!

Jealousy – Do they get jealous easily? How do they handle it?

I don’t see him getting jealous very easily, but he’s always down for a fight. He’s large and in charge, big muscles… He’ll punch people for fun! (Probably not even sorry)

If someone really wants to press their luck and try to fight him for your affections, they are more than welcome to try! But! I don’t see that ending well for them.

Kisses – How do they like to kiss you? How frequently do you kiss?

His kisses tend to be either really playful and nippy, or very slow and passionate. I don’t think there’s an in between.

He’ll look at you as if you hung the moon in the sky just for him. As if you are the absolute love of his life, even if this is your first kiss. He kisses you like this will be the last time, like he’ll never see you again. He cups your cheek with one hand, the other arm wrapped around your waist firmly as if you’ll disappear at any moment. He pours so much of his heart, so much of his love and affection, into the kiss that you’ve even shed a couple of tears upon parting.

When playful, he uses more of his teeth. He’ll nip your lip, your cheek, your nose, your ear, anywhere he can get his mouth honestly, and always with a goofy grin on his face.

He also really loves kissing you while doing pushups. You lay on your back underneath him, giving him one, two, three kisses every time he comes down, giggling when he pushes back up.

Love – How do they show you that they love you?

Acts of Service and Quality Time

You’re behind on dishes? He’ll hand wash them. Need to water your plants yesterday? He’s already filling a pitcher. Wanna watch that new scary movie? He’ll hold your hand and cover your eyes if you need. As a bonus, he’ll even cuddle you while you both doom scroll on your phones on a lazy day.

Melt – What do you do that absolutely makes them melt?

He feels special when you accompany him to the gym. Even if you’re not working out together, the fact that you came along means a lot to him. If you are working out with him, best believe he’s the best spotter for you. He helps you correct your form or find modifications if you need them. He also gives you playful winks in the mirror to fluster you before you do a set. Maybe don’t go on leg day though, he gets… distracted

The other thing is when you get along with his mom, AND THAT SHE LOVES YOU ALMOST AS MUCH AS HE DOES. He is such a momma’s boy, it kills me, but she is a very sweet woman<3

Nicknames – What do they call you, and what are their favorite things to be called?

He might call you his “sweet puppy,” “little minx,” or “pretty fox.” Generally speaking though he usually just calls you “baby” or “babe” He works really hard on his appearance so he likes nicknames that reflect that. “Handsome,” “sexy,” “muscle-y man,” and he also sometimes likes “babe” or “good boy”

Obvious – How obvious do they make it that they like you?

He tries to hide it, but you have a way of making him blush so much :3 He can be pretty flirty with you, even if he’s not trying to be… He just kinda… word vomits I think, and he might ramble a little, but he still tries to be the cool guy to impress you

Pets – Do they have pets? Do they want them?

Canonically a dog guy! Cute puppies almost bring tears to his eyes!

Quiet – How are the calm, quiet moments with them?

I feel like quiet moments don’t happen that often? Maybe when he’s sleepy or the rare time he’s feeling lazy. These times are relaxing and sleep inducing.

Romance – How romantic are they? What are their go-to ways of being romantic?

I think he’s a pretty romantic guy. Momma taught him well, yk. He’ll bring you flowers, or candies. If he’s able to, he’ll call you before bed just to say good night. He’s your protector

Safe – What makes them feel safe and comfortable around you?

He loves that you’re not trying to change him into something he’s not. You’re not with him for his fame and fortune… he’s him and he’s pretty damn near perfect

Tend – How do they act when you’re hurt or sick, and vice versa?

If you’re hurt, he wants to beat up whoever hurt you. If you’re sick? He cooks homemade soup for you and makes sure you take your medicine.

If he’s hurt, it’s probably because he went a little too far punching someone. He’s fine to clean himself up but he appreciates when you wanna coddle him. If he’s sick, you’re not going in his room unless you’re bringing him soup or medicine. Keep out.

Unique – What’s an unusual thing about them that’s oddly charming?

Obsessed with protein powder and has all kinds of interesting snack recipes like protein pudding. You might still be scared to try them…

Variety – Do they prefer to keep things the same, or spice it up?

He likes the routine and domesticity you bring him. He gets enough spontaneity from Heartsteel! That being said, he doesn’t mind if you spice things up, he’s open to it and he does like the spontaneity.

Wash – What’s it like taking a bath with them, or helping them wash up after a fight?

Guy’s like 6’5 and real muscular, you’d have to have a really big tub to take a bath with him :( If you’re able to, his fingers will graze along your skin delicately, kisses placed on your shoulders and neck softly Showers are good if you have a big enough shower though! He’ll wash your hair, soap up your back, maybe things will get spicy too~

XO – How do they show you affection? How much PDA are they willing to show?

He loves showing you affection. Loves showing off to you, carrying you, piggybacking you. He’ll even skip along the sidewalk or swing your entwined hands dramatically. If just standing, like in a line or a group, he’ll be behind you with his hands on your shoulders and chin resting on your head. He doesn’t mind kissing you in public either but I don’t think he would make out in public.

Yearn – What do they do when they miss you?

He has a picture of you for his homescreen and a picture of your silhouettes from your most recent date as his lock screen that he constantly stares at. He made a playlist of songs that remind him of you that he plays on repeat. If he’s on tour, he brings one of your stuffed animals that he has you spritz with your favourite perfume (after whining about how much he’s gonna miss you). Zzz – How do they act when they get sleepy? How is it sleeping in the same bed?

When sleepy, he’s quiet and calm. He gets cozy and warm even if he’s on the couch. Will fall asleep anywhere. He doesn’t move too much in his sleep, but he does mumble random things, usually insults or threats but they’re so silly you can’t help but laugh later
