Me? Choose the best Whouffaldi? Well dang.

My personal number 1 is probably the ending of Last Christmas, including the bit with old lady Clara. It is incredibly heartbreaking but also definitely proves how in love Clara is with 12. The whole “there was one other man, but it would’ve never worked out, he was impossible” is all the proof you need of what she felt for him, and you know he knows what she’s talking about. But with the reveal that it’s still a dream, and the two kiss*, and then run off together in the middle of the night, going hand in hand - they eloped. brbeloping and what not.

Basically, that last bit of Last Christmas is all the roller coaster of this ship in a nutshell.

And then five honorable mentions go to….

Deep Breath, when 12 is in bed and Clara is watching over him, unsure of what has happened and how she feels, and how upset she is that his new life isn’t young because she thinks it’s unfair to him (remember she’s seen past Doctors so she has a general idea of how regeneration works). Then when she gets angry at Vastra and says the line about flirting with a mountain range - how true that one turned out to be.

Uhhh Mummy on the Orient Express, with the hallway scene, because if you pay attention to their body language it’s pretty much the closest you’re going to get to a sexual scene without clothes coming off. (It is rather amusing to note that 12, unlike in other scenes of them two being intimate (the hugging), is the one that is calm and collected while Clara is the one who is flustered.)

It’s something of a tie between the tank scene in The Magician’s Apprentice where 12 is clearly playing Pretty Woman to Clara, and the end of The Witch’s Familiar when the two are facing down Daleks and the TARDIS rebuilds around them. The former is so bizarre and blunt that is hard to ignore being so crazy flirty, while the latter has such a “space married” vibe to it. The Doctor and Clara, in the TARDIS.

A very triumphant bit that maybe owes a bit to how fandom works is in Before the Flood, when 12 calls Clara going “well I’m gonna die peace out” and she just says “no”. The line of “If you love me in any way, you’ll come back” was teased before the episode came out in one of those ‘here are contextless lines from the episode’ articles, so we, the fandom, did not know who spoke them or why. Just being the way luck is, I assumed it had to be one of the other characters (since there’s like three couples in the flood episodes), but then - but then - it wasn’t. It’s such an in-your-face line that once again makes it clear how Clara feels, but also makes it pretty clear that 12 loves her enough to cheat death and time (gee, like that’s a theme that would come up again huh).

I also just love that small scene at the end of The Woman Who Lived, when 12 is at the console and Clara comes up from behind, hugs him, and the two stay embraced for a while. She has her head on his shoulder and is snuggled in. It’s not big or bombastic, it isn’t breaking time to save a loved one, but small scenes are so important to building a relationship and giving the pair life beyond the big, exciting moments.

Double honorable mentions:

The “I love you” in MOTOE, because, duh

The spinny hug in The Girl Who Died because, duh

Heaven Sent/Hell Bent as a whole because, well, duh

Sleep No More with it’s Extreme Space Married Couple action

In the Forest of the Night’s “I walk your earth, I breath your air” line

tbh my ship startet with 11’s regeneration… Don’t get me wrong, I loved Clara with 11, but it was so easy and they talked a lot. What really got me was Clara’s struggle to accept the Doctor’s new face, how she was finally able to *see* him and all the unspoken love. Two different relationships im my opinion, I prefered the latter:)

Whouffle was a very cute relationship. Clara came to Eleven the moment he needed her the most and gave him new energy and will for adventure. That said. It does not compare to Whouffaldi. The moment Twelve said ''please, just see me'' i was destroyed for life, haven't been the same since.

I lowkey shipped Whouffle. But it was more like a “aww, they’re cute together” or “that is so not a platonic relationship”. When I saw the first filming pictures from Depp Breath, however, I went full Titanic and knew I’d sell my soul to see a kiss happen.

It didn’t even occur to me to ship Clara & 11, for some reason.But at Christmas 2015 Whouffaldi stole my heart, and I’ve never been the same since.

I shipped Whouffle but I don’t recall that I did so intensely; in fact I thought the better match was Eleven and Clara OSWIN Oswald from The Snowmen. However I was fully invested in it, especially from The Crimson Horror (“boop!”) onwards.

When Deep Breath came along I was worried they’d scale it back because of ageism attitudes that were being expressed in fandom and in the media after Capaldi was cast. And then there was PCap’s own alleged “there’ll be no romance” comment (I say “alleged” because I’ve heard tell that was overplayed and I only recently discovered that he was calling Twelve-Clara a romance in interviews as early as the 2014 World Tour). So I had somewhat saddened … until I realized that Doctor Rule No. 1 was in full effect in the final scene with the “I’m not your boyfriend” bit - which at the same time, though, confirmed in canon that Eleven did have those feelings for Clara.

Needless to say, I did NOT like the introduction of Danny Pink and if it wasn’t for the fact I thought Into the Dalek was a cool concept and Listen became, for a time, the best Doctor Who episode of all time in my estimation, I might have turned a bit against S9. But then came Mummy on the Orient Express and the penny dropped and I was away at the races again. But I didn’t become truly intensely Whouffaldi until I got hit with a one-two-three punch at the end of 2014-early 2015: Jenna confirming that Clara’s “I love you” in Mummy was meant for the Doctor; her Doctor Who Magazine cover story (”Clara’s heart belongs to the Doctor”) and Last Christmas. After that, it was full speed ahead. And it reached its zenith with the Raven Trilogy.

I thought Eleven and Clara made a cute couple but Matt just didn’t interest me. Twelve did. It took a while to realize that Whouffaldi was a legitimate concept; I think it was Dark Water that finally sold me.

Different Case, same Software - like, to begin with my view is that the Doctor’s basically essentially the same person throughout his many forms. Also, consistency - I mean when a new Companion is first introduced I don’t particularly care whether or not they’ll get love interestey I just want a good story, but it would just have been inconsistent if 10 & Rose continued right where they left off but the rules were somehow different now, especially with the whole situation in ‘Deep Breath’.

I thought it’d end with his regeneration and then the restaurant scene in Deep Breath made me realise that he was the same man and that only their relationship has slightly changed, being a little bit bumpier for now on… i see this scene like the end of their honeymoon, if i can say it like that! I now ship 12 and Clara even harder.If it helps… Even today my bunch of tags intitled OTP still is: #souffez (i think we are only a few now to use this one) #time...

A friend of mine does not like Twelve and Clara. How do I change her mind? How do I explain to her that they have the most beautiful love story in the history of science fiction?

One, get better friends.

The real answer is, who knows. Is it someone who has seen the show? If she’s seen the same episodes you have and comes away thinking whatever - that it’s gross, that someone is annoying, that they hate a character involved, that the Doctor is just totally in love with a love interest beginning with R and nothing will just ever compete - then idk man, that ship has sailed. Especially in cases of fandom it’s very rare for people who hold hard opinions to change their mind.

Have I changed people’s mind? Yes. The drawings are propaganda. It’s what I do. But in the overall scheme of things, are you likely to change someone’s mind by trying to plead your case? Probably not. And there are better hills to die on than a ship. I just choose my hills very poorly.

On the other hand, has she not seen the show or caught up on the episodes? This is a different scenario. I have watched episodes with friends who knew my ship inclinations, and with my dad who very much didn’t, and in the case of the former they came away with “mmmm yup I see what you’re talking about”. In the case of the latter, it was him coming to his own conclusions and me making some comments and jokes about stuff going on that he goes “he almost destroyed time and space because he loved her, huh”.

Basically, if you can be a casual influence to someone who hasn’t seen the episodes, you got a chance. If the person has already watched and made up their mind and has a firm opinion about it, no amount of waxing poetic is going to get them to change their mind.

So instead do what I do and just post about it a lot on your social media platforms of choice and be all “idgaf about what you think” because honestly it’s pretty satisfying either way.

In my opinion, I like that she had long hair in the first season and short hair in the second season. Her hair really suits her character in both seasons. 

Let’s review:

Tandy with long hair appears more youthful, a little messy, kinda reckless. Very fitting for the Tandy we see in the first season: always running, always stealing.

In the second season, Tandy with short hair looks more mature, a little edgier, kinda like she’s growing into herself and who she wants to be. 

Oh, but if I had to pick, I definitely like how she styled her hair when it was long.

She’s just so pretty, I don’t know what else to say.

Okay, not too long ago there was a post of the cold open from Yippie Kayak. It was of Amy being super excited over her gift for Holt and Jake making heart eyes at her. It was something like, "When your girlfriend is high-key excited about something and you realize how in love you are with her." Can you or someone please help me find it?
