Well then, my dear... WIP QUOTE! Pretty please? :3
Thank you for sending this ask, darling! And sorry to take so long to reply, I had such a hard time picking a quote, I have so many WIPs, lol.
I’m working my way through a final editing pass on chapter 2 of First Christmas so I can post it later today, and it’s tempting to post something from that or from chapter 3. But since those are going to be posted so soon anyway, I thought I’d go with something from the two stories that I skipped over so that I could post First Christmas in time for the holidays. Eventually, For As Long As We Get will also have parts that correspond to both In The Forest Of The Night and Dark Water/Death In Heaven, and hopefully I’ll get those both finished and posted sometime early next year.
This is a bit from the AU story that goes with In The Forest Of The Night, currently titled Strangely Compelling, but that may change by the time I post it. Like the rest of For As Long As We Get, the events of the episode happen more or less the same, but the emotional context has shifted completely. I’d love to hear what you think!

“I didn’t realise you two were...” Danny trailed off, waving one hand vaguely.
“Married,” the Doctor supplied, in the same moment Danny said, “...still ‘travelling’ together.”
For a fraction of a second, Clara managed to hold out hope that maybe Danny hadn’t heard the Doctor’s interjection, but then his eyes went wide and his mouth hitched up in a disbelieving smile.
“Married?” he demanded.
“Thanks for that,” she muttered dryly to the Doctor.
“How was I to know you hadn’t told him?” he shot back.
“You married him?” Danny continued, ignoring their exchange. “Less than a month after we broke up?”
The Doctor opened his mouth to respond, but Clara wrapped her hand around his wrist and thought LEAVE. IT. at him as loudly as she could.
“Time travel makes the whole ‘less than a month’ thing kind of irrelevant,” she said instead, cleanly sidestepping the truth that, in fact, she had married the Doctor within about a week of breaking up with Danny. “Much like this entire conversation!” she went on. “Our focus needs to be on figuring out what’s going on with the trees, and keeping the children safe. My private life is no one’s business. Now, both of you: back to work.”
Danny nodded, still smiling that bitter, mocking smile. “I had it wrong, didn’t I? Which one of you is the officer, I mean.”
She felt the Doctor’s hand twitch beneath her grip, felt his emotions spiralling out from his skin, muddling with her own. They didn’t have time for this. “Trees,” she said sternly, looking to him. “Children,” she said to Danny in the same tone. “Go!”
“Yes, sir!” Danny said with a crisp salute, then turned on his heel and headed back towards the cluster of students.
The Doctor was looking at her from under his brows, and his anger would have been easy to read even if she hadn’t been able to feel it through their telepathic bond.
It doesn’t matter, she thought at him silently. Solve the problem and save the day, my impossible man.
His expression relaxed marginally and he nodded, turning his hand over to give her fingers a quick squeeze before going back into the TARDIS.
