It's definitely baffling. Gilbert is also a platonic S support for both m!Byleth and F!Byleth if you did the Blue Lions route.

I knew that Gilbert was the m/m options and tbf I don’t know anything about him either other than he has an... let’s call it ill defined relationship to Anette. I did not know that it was platonic. I knew that this game had some slim pickings for m/m pairings but making half of them platonic is kind of absurd.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard him talk about his wife or kids (I am only on chapter 7--it sounds like so little for having played 20+ hours already! I just finished the Fates trilogy where the first 10 chapters would go by in 5 hours or less.) 

Fair point on the platonic S supports. I’ve been living in ferdibert world where an A support is the closest you’re going to get to anything romantic, so an S support just sounds like a romantic dream. But you’re right, having some options for platonic life partners isn’t bad at all.

I’ve been mentally putting together my list for what an ideal FE game would look like, and I definitely think that making things like this clearer (S for a romantic happily ever after vs. A+ or even A++ for a platonic bond that cannot be broken for example) is on there. And if you could CHOOSE? Whether the one person you want to be with is your PARTNER IN CRIME or your ROMANTIC LIFE PARTNER? how dope would that be???

How I feel about this character:

What a disgusting little shell of a man, I love him!

To be more brief, I find it so interesting how he fits the role of the sympathetic foil antagonist but emphatically refuses the pity of either Joker or the audience, there is this determination almost to damn himself, and I have so much fun watching him chart his path of self-destruction

My unpopular opinion about this character:

I don’t think he was all torn up about betraying the Phantom Thieves or almost murdering Joker, while his feelings are more mixed than just pure hatred, I feel like what affection he felt only motivated him more to try and destroy them so he could erase any weakness, even with all the bad choices he makes, Akechi deliberates chooses not to regret them

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I’d like to see more interaction with the rest of the Phantom Thieves, perhaps a showtime with ‘Sumi, I think some of the potential connections he has to ppl like Makoto and Haru would be fun to explore

“That’s because you’ve augmented them,” Tyelperinquar noted. “There’s something rather unnatural about that arrangement, and I’m guessing it’s your handiwork.”

“Guilty as charged,” Annatar answered, and the grin he gave sent a flash of heat through the elf beside him. “It’s not just a matter of different composition - though honestly, ithildin is inefficient even from that standpoint, and I plan to have a word with Mistress Narvi about that. It’s about song, and word, and mostly will.”

“Your will.”

“Or the will of the smith.”

“So that means your will, then,” Tyelperinquar repeated, “because we’ve established by now that my will is significantly less impressive than yours.”

“Don’t sell yourself short, Tyelpë.”

“I’m not,” the elf said, smiling a little. “You’re better than I am at this, that’s all. I can see how your own desire has shaped everything, and I think it will work well for the prototypes. Do you plan on making any improvements?”

“No,” Annatar said, though for a moment something in his gaze went distant and far-seeing. “No, I don’t think we want these to be completely indestructible. Though of course they wouldn’t be, even with improvements to the bonds.”

“How wouldn’t they be? This sort of augmentation means no ordinary forge could melt it down, and pushing past that - ?”

“You caught the flaw, dear. Will. It’s not simply good craft, there’s spellwork to it, and so it could be taken apart, but only…” His voice trailed off, and his eyes went distant again.

“Only?” Tyelperinquar prompted; Annatar shook his head.

“It doesn’t matter,” he said, shifting the conversation easily. “You’re right. Pushing this any further would mean the metal was too resilient for our goals. Let’s forget about this, shall we?”

The Lord of Ost-in-Edhil shrugged, turning his attention back to the pages of diagrams on the table before them.

Mortals, even half-mortals, really aren’t supposed to get close to holy things like Silmarils, even after Choosing to be elves. And Eärendil did want to be a human, after all. The Silmaril hastened his death, and since he spent all his time up in the sky, no one was really the wiser. He took the Gift of Men, and the Silmaril is practically sentient. It can steer a ship on its own.

Yes to the Amlach thing!I love how Maedhros kind of took in the ppl with the slandered reputations (See also when he recruited a bunch of northern Sindar that had been falsely accused of working for Morgoth )

I know right?! That’s one of the best things about Maedhros’s character, isn’t it? He understands that the only hope the Noldor even have of defeating Morgoth is to unite and to ally themselves with others who want to see Morgoth fall, and even better, he’s actually really good at getting people to do just that? And like, he knows what it is to have a bad reputation, to have other people eye you warily and to not trust you. He’s Feanorian after all! I doubt his reception among Fingolfin’s host after Fingon brought him back from Thangorodrim was the greatest. So, he gets it on some level. Maybe he even understands that these people who are held in disrepute by others might be willing to fight that much harder against Morgoth because -- like with Amlach, like with those Sindar -- he’s ruined them and their reputations. And their loyalty? Yeah, it’s going to be with the people who do  actually accept them.

And With Amlach, I just love the way that develops between he and Maedhros? Because Amlach doesn’t like elves that much at first. He’s not like Bëor or  Húrin, ready to accept these elves as so much wiser or knowing better than men, but he went to fight by Maedhros’ side any way, and that’s just really interesting? I just love the idea of him still being kind of warry of trusting Maedhros or the other elves around him all that fully a first, of having his own motivations and sticking to them, but through battle and shared bloodshed, through heated arguments over battle strategy, through banter and blows traded on the training grounds, forging this friendship and loyalty with his elven comrades that’s stronger than iron.

Edelgard definitely DOES have trauma related to the kidnapping the experiments would naturally overshadow it but she and ppl who care about her never refer to it as anything but yet another bad thing they couldnt protect her from

Does she though? 

She certainly never brings it up. the only people who talk about her exile/trip for safety to Fearghus are Hubert and Dimitri. 

It is kidnapping in a legal sense, if Arundel moved Edelgard without either of her parents’ knowledge, but there are no set facts about the event other than Arundel moved Edelgard to the Kingdom, Arundel (or perhaps Thales as Arundel) moved Edelgard back to the Empire, Dimitri and Edelgard were friends while she was in the kingdom, and Hubert ran away to be feral in a forest for a bit until some adults managed to calm him down. We do not know if Edelgard’s father knew about her being moved. We do not know if Patricia knew about Edelgard being moved. 

If Edelgard does have trauma it isn’t in the moving back and forth to the kingdom, but the knowledge of what she is potentially being moved away from: the coup of the seven.

Thanks. I haven’t gotten beyond ch. 3 in BL so I thought he was older than her based on his memories being so much clearer. Honestly everything around Dimitri Edelgard, and Duscar makes my head spin and I would appreciate a timeline breakdown.
