Sometimes I like to revisit my old art and draw it again to see how I've improved over the years. This hot weather is the best time to redo this one! ☀️🧋

Aece DorkyDork Ref Rework 2026

Ta da! I have finally finished reworking my reference sheet for this year's artfight.

This time I decided to lean into like a bee/lynx vibe. Even gave girlie some actual hair instead of a poof, though it is still an option for if I cant/dont want to draw the hair. I yellowed her teeth more too.

I also replaced the bird wings for bee wings as it didnt entirely make sense for her to have them. I also made her whiskers squiggly to give more of the rough look. I love the stripes down her back this go around as well as the fur ridge down her back.

With this new ref sheet complete, my eyes have been opened more to my progress. My sona has made such a dramatic change since she has existed. She wasn't always a cat... she used to be a dragon and before that, a gryphon. Each ref sheet shows my progress as an artist and I think I am going to keep reworking it yearly. Or until I am fully satisfied with what I have drawn which I doubt will happen as I am everchanging.

Below I have lined them up from the most recent to the earliest my mainsona, Aece, was a cat (2026 - 2023). I had also switched to Ibispaint around 2024 from Medibang and you can see huge changes.

To sit back and see my progress lined up is so refreshing. Ive put a lot of time and effort into this skill so it is nice to finally see real progress. I wouldn't be here without those I have met along the way, with me now or not. I greatly appreciate my partner, Goofball, and best friend, Silver, for helping me through this journey.

I think using references from the games will always be helpful. I also use refs a lot! And draw from your emotions

Just like for my daughter, I also made a personal request drawing for my 7 year old son. Recently my gamer boy has being playing a lot of Kirby so he wanted fire Kirby and waddle dee with a fire stick. A lot of the drawing isnt visible because of the frame but I do think I am getting better at it. And the though that both my kids have a custom made drawing before I die one day warms my heart.
