Trying to get my bearings after 6 months of a new home in a new city with a new family all under COVID related social distancing, I read Ross Gay’s Book of Delight and was inspired by the line “Caretaking is our default mode and it is always a lie that convinces us to act or believe differently.” This month I ask: how are you taking care of those around you?

After years of juggling freelance, part-time, service industry jobs and then months of unemployment without unemployment pay during COVID, I decided to get a full-time job.  Inspired by this decision and the questions about my identity that followed, I ask, how do you define your work and your relationship to it?

I LOVE FREE FRIDGES//response to Keep Writing number 139 sent November 2020, sharing what you can spare. Free fridges are my favorite direct way of sharing resources—I try to cook some ready to eat meals once a week, sometimes using surplus beans or rice or produce from a free fridge!
