AAAAAAAAAAA THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD
🌊A Bone In His Teeth🌊
My newest project is completed! A Bone In His Teeth is a fantasy/monster romance featuring a disabled, lighthouse keeper trans man and a bloodthirsty merrow/merman. It's incredibly atmospheric in its seaside horrors, so I knew that I had to create my own version of a handmade, leather bound lighthouse keepers logbook to go with the vibe!
I intentionally wanted it to look handmade, aged, and roughed up and I think I succeeded on that front. This was a lot of firsts for me! First time using leather to bind, first time tooling leather and using a woodburning engraving pen on it (getting to feel the ridges in the leather around the lighthouse and words is so satisfying!) There's so much that I've learned in this process and I'm super excited to continue binding with leather!
I used acrylic paints to age and weather the leather and even sprinkled saltwater on it for that "briney" look. And the pages are speckled in black paint to represent black "Merrow Blood" which, in the book, stains everything it touches and flows pretty freely being the horror-romance that it is!
Definitely a totally different vibe than I've ever done before and I'm so pleased with it!

I need another book like A Bone In His Teeth. Disabled trans man fucked nasty by a two-dicked merman and also is a murder-hobo. Please. I need it so bad. It's very specific and I need it.

Going to share my April TBR and follow up as I finish the books and maybe as I read them. (Spoiler, I actually already finished two and am reading the 3rd. Oops!)

A Bone in His Teeth by Kellen Graves
When a fall from the mast leaves Alba Marsh unable to sail, he finally has the chance to run away from his family debts in search of a better life. He hopes to reunite with his mother, Edythe, where they always promised to meet if things went awry, but finding the small, secluded, secretive town of Moon Harbor proves a greater challenge than Alba ever expected. Worse, upon arriving, no one seems to know anyone by the name Edythe Marsh at all.
Taking a job as the local lighthouse keeper while waiting for her to come, Alba attempts to find peace in his stolen freedom--but the sea has other plans. First come the shadows, then the voices, then watery trails left on the floor while he sleeps. He's inundated with erotic dreams of sirens calling out to him, and distant singing haunts his waking hours, all while the townspeople claim to hear nothing.
After a debtor catches up with him and he's forced to dispose of their body in the harbor, Alba is interrupted by Eridanys, the last merrow of Moon Harbor, who curses him from leaving until he can find out what happened to the other merrow that once filled those waters. Eridanys' demands, both mental and physical, are exhausting and endless--but as their relationship deepens, and Moon Harbor’s long-kept secrets are butterflied open to see, it becomes clear they may both be prey to the town in ways neither of them ever anticipated.
