For Bim: 🍪 cookies & cream frappuccino – what brings them comfort?
For Kelio: 🔥 spicy lemonade – what makes them snap or lose their temper?
And for Tasuchat: 🍮 vanilla latte – what’s something sweet about them?
For Bim: What brings them comfort?
Bim is comforted by music and soundscapes, especially low frequency sounds. Not so much listening but also feeling the vibrations. Because of his upbringing he has a preferance for more artifical, droning sounds as opposed to natural ones.
For Kellio: What makes them snap or lose their temper?
Kellio cannot stand bullies. And while she would be able to ignore something directed at herself, if someone were to target her crew, her friends, her Skipper, it could escalate to her throwing hands.
For Tasuchat: What's something sweet about them?
He keeps a spreadsheet to keep track of his crewmate's likes and dislikes, and reactions to gifts. That way if he finds something interesting, he knows who might like it if he got it for them. And when the best time to give it to them might be.
Would Tasuchat and Kellio be interested in seeing Ceicive's terrarium pets?
Aside from the Xenoanthropologist, which other crew members of the Omelas do you think Bim would enjoy meeting if they got the chance to?
Would Tasuchat and Kellio be interested in seeing Ceicive’s terrarium pets?
Kellio would very much like to see the little critters! She might even try to pet one, though she would ask permission first. And Tasuchat would at least find them interesting. Especially if Ceicive has facts to share about them. They love fact collecting.
Aside from the Xenoanthropologist, which other crew members of the Omelas do you think Bim would enjoy meeting if they got the chance to?
The B/C engineer seems like the kind of person Bim would get along with. They just seem fun in general. He might enjoy asking Muna questions about herself and other Lurians. I also think that he would admire Doctor D'Hrava and her sheer detection to her work if that came through in their first meeting.
And even though it wasn’t asked but is still kinda on topic:
Vebdorians in general have an aversion to telepaths. So even though Bim isn’t into the whole ‘deception is survival’ mentality, Aerelai might make him a bit uncomfortable at first. And Bim himself is a ‘loose’ pacifist so R’aahs might be too intense for him. [ I only mention it because I find these kind of conflicts interesting]
These are the backstories of three (3) out of the six (6) members of the Constantinople crew. To both have them in writing and avoid potential spoilers / ruining future plot twists, I’m going to put them here and you can just guess who is who!
#1 They were an only child and grew up on their home planet. Their parents already had it in their minds what they wanted from their child the moment they were expecting. However, as a child their talents didn’t match the expectation put upon them. They were very talented, if also a bit ‘strange’ compared to other members of their species. Their parents were obviously disappointed, but over time came to realize their disappointment was self-inflicted. They allowed their child to pursue their passion which eventually let them get a spot on the Constantinople. Some part of them still was affected by their perceived failure to meet expectations. They are especially self-conscious about how different their behavior is from that of other members of their species and how much it makes them stand out.
#2 They grew up off of their homeworld raised mostly by extended family / relatives. From a young age they were prepared to follow in their footsteps when it came to occupation. They were also the only child in the immediate vicinity of where they were raised. Many people doted over them, constantly encouraging them and praising them, but also protecting them from any kind of difficulty. And they strongly benefited from nepotism, basically gifted their position on the Constantinople. But have a position that actually required responsibility was a wake-up call. Suddenly things were difficult. Not impossibly difficult, but there was no one else to take over their responsibilities. They had to learn fast and sometimes the hard way. But they adapted. What’s more they turned out to be actually good at their job, even if they don’t feel like it. In their mind, if they were doing such a good job, why was it hard?
#3 They are the middle child of Star Fleet officers. Not getting as much attention as their siblings led them to be very independently minded. They quietly develop their talents on their own, and developed a strong set of beliefs based off of what they saw in the world around them. Once the time came, they left their family home, seeking adventure among in the stars. (They knew, from their parents, that is where all the *cool* stuff happens.) They are physically distant from their families now but still make an effort to keep in touch. They have no regrets about joining the Constantinople, in their eyes she is the finest ship to ever fly. But that could just be the wanderlust talking.
Alright friends I’m sorry it’s whump time so just be warned. The context is that the crew gets roped into doing some top secret stuff for the federation (compelled by ‘civic duty’ and minor threats, think Section 31 stuff) but their ship is captured by some even shader guys who want whatever top secret thing they are transporting is. Skipper Jaal is surprisingly resilient and doesn’t break. So they resort to tormenting another, more vulnerable crew member for information. Ironically not so much for what information they know but to encourage Jaal to give up the more classified stuff.
Anyway this is the aftermath. Below the cut is the whump and small amount of gore but not too detailed (one sentence but with the potential to be deeply uncomfortable)
Tasuchat pried the dead doors open, fighting what remained of the locking mechanism Kellio had sawed her way through. He reflexively squinted as the light poured out. A bright, sterile light. Kellio was first to burst through, as soon as Tasuchat cracked the door wide enough. Skipper Jaal followed, both of them frantic.
“Bim!” she called out, though there was no question where he was.
The small pink quivering mass in the corner of the otherwise empty room. He tentatively shifted one of his arms, uncovering an eye.
Kellio rushed to his side. He recoiled. She slowed, knelt down next to him. Her eyes soft with sympathy. She wasn’t a threat. He knew that. He was just waiting for his body to catch up.
Skipper Jaal stopped halfway into the room. His hands shaking as he could tell Bim had shifted focus to him. Addressing the Skipper, all he could manage was stammering out in a shaking voice,
“I am sorry.”
“No,” Jaal shook his head, “It wasn’t your mistake.”
“You’re going to be okay now.” Kellio added, as she slowly reached out to comfort him.
But Bim pulled away,
“Do not touch me,” he quaked, “Please…”
Tasuchat approached. Ever pragmatic rather than gentle, he didn’t ask permission before laying the emergency shock blanket over Bim. The light was not good for him. Exposure to this cold, dry air was uncomfortable under normal circumstances. He needed physical indication that it was over. That he no longer would be exposed to these conditions.
After a few moments Bim stopped shaking. The weight and warmth of the blanket. The shape of his friend’s faces out of the corner of his vision. It soothed him enough to briefly be brought to his senses. The words for exactly what he needed to say would have to develop a little longer. But Bim knew he should at least show them. He turned around, exposing first his two right eyes, then his two left. Seeing the one furthest on his left, Kellio gasped. Jaal looked down toward the floor, clenching his fist and closing his eyes. Only Tasuchat remained stoic for the sake of sparing his friend the added distress.
Bim’s leftmost eye had been… damaged. The membrane slit, and despite already healing, it was still a mess of clumping tissue and nerve.
“I could not handle it,” he said, “It was too much. So I told them everything. I am sorry, Skipper Jaal.”
Jaal opened his eyes, knuckles turning white as he continued to ball his fists tighter. Why did they choose him, of everyone involved? He guessed why: Bim was easy to hurt, but he recovered just as quickly. To some sick people it, was fun for them to see what they could get away with doing to someone.
“I’m the one who told them everything.” Jaal said, “I let them take the cargo. I told them everything Star Fleet told me about it. And I should have told them sooner. Before all this…”
So for a return oc playdate (at the same station docking shoreleave) what would Tasuchat think of Ceicive? Does Tasuchat have any friends from abroad the Constantinople who he'd be hanging out with?
As far as Tasuchat:
He would probably be with Kellio, if not hanging out then probably talking shop. (Her golden retriever personality means she’s pretty much friendly with anyone)
Seeing Ceicive, Tasuchat would think, likely in this order:
Oh, another Cardassian? In Star Fleet? Okay… and, former Borg? Wait, don’t stare. They probably already feel self conscious about it… are those stickers?! How do I ask about the stickers without making it seem like I was staring at him? Is it weird to complement another man’s stickers?
Followed by:
*Clears Throat* “Hello,”
Following up with Bim and Ta’nil:
(If Bim wanted she would probably make them something since that's a common means of cultural exchange for her! What might they want?)
Ooh! Bim would probably love something made of silk. It’s light a breathable which would be way more comfortable for his more sensitive skin. He usually wears things that are shawl / cloak like so they flow with him and he can move freely. Even a scarf would be nice!
Toka actually tends to get along eith Vulcans fairly well, and since he's a bit of a non traditional Ferengi he might vibe with Ta’nil since she's a non traditional Vulcan! (He's very good at Kal-Toh!)
Ta’nil would love to chat over a game of Kal-Toh. She’d probably ask if he knows anything about the local treasures or artifacts. (She might even offer to pay for the information if it would be implied that would help.) Of course she’s just really into history and historical preservation and wouldn’t have any interest in removing the artifacts.
Does Bim eat? The Xenoanthropologist and Toka both eat insects primarily so idk if they'd want to join them on either front 😅 🤣🐛🪲🦂
Insects are like the ‘grilled cheese’ of Vendorian cuisine, not usually something you eat out but not an outright unacceptable food. Ta’nil would rather stick to her vegetarian preferences.
