Y/n wanted to take a photo of the beans' "first" birthday. One little bright mer has to hurry up, because his brother is ready to inhale the whole birthday cake

@intistone 's Kelpie AU and its spinoff resurrected my middle school obsession with mermaids, so it felt fitting to create my own kelpie OC set in that world.
Lorelei is very heavily inspired by my phase in middle school and its long-term effects on my brain chemistry. (WikiHow and YouTube mertube series my beloved...) Think the aquatic equivalent of this post about vampires using being goth as a cover. No one's gonna bat an eye when the person with an interest in mythological sea creatures goes swimming a lot and becomes super interested when folks mention a sea monster sighting in the area! Especially when everyone has silently agreed that the interest likely arose as a way for them to cope with their strange and ostracizing skin condition.
This also gave me a nice chance to practice my digital painting technique and some funky lighting, even if I did get lazy at the end. (Something something, artistic decision? :P)
