Yesterday the Series as Gothic fiction
I wrote a little about this on bluesky but I thought I'd share here and maybe expand on some points!
In my opinion, Yesterday the Series belongs in the Gothic fiction (a modern version of the genre!)
Gothic fiction has characteristics including themes of isolation, being trapped/claustrophobia, fucked up family dynamics, anti-heroes, feelings of dread, influence of the past, and imposing settings like manors, mansions, castles.
Yesterday Ep. 4
Hello man who wants to be a bottom for him. You can do it! I believe in you!
Yesterday is proof that a tiny bit of attention and kindness can change a lot in life. I think Vier had no idea that it would really mess up his life, while Kelvin felt like it made him reborn after years of neglect and abuse.
Yesterday ep 10 finale!!
Something about Vier and his love for Kelvin is so compelling to me! because he is able to not necessarily look past everything that has happened to him. But is actively choosing to leave it at all in the past which is very admirable of him because understandable so if he wanted to hold a grudge over Kelvin no one would blame him. But because of how he fell in love so unexpectedly it really changed his perspective. And i think he understands and sees the battles that Kelvin is grappling with. And he gracefully sees and accepts Kelvin as he is. Vier says "when people truly love each other there are no mistakes" it's about whether you're willing to forgive". And this THIS is the thing about vier he knows anyone else would question why he even wants to still try but that's the thing about love and forgiveness. He loves Kelvin as he was before and even now when everything went horrible all he felt was sympathy. He never truly stopped loving him through all that turmoil and and especially all the things that kelvin even did to himself because he truly felt like punishing himself was only way he can relieve some of that.
Vier became the one person who made Kelvin feel truly safe and he wants to help him so much reassurance and comfort and closeness. And he is more than willing to do that for him. When obviously others will be like he doesn't deserve it and it's not his responsibility to do any of this. But that's the thing about love it's not always logical and in their case it is far from it lol cause anyone else would have walked away.
But I think for me look at the ending I could totally understand why they are deciding to start over. Vier is so tenacious and compassionate sometimes at a fault admittedly. But that doesn't mean he neglects his own feelings cause he let's Kelvin know how he feels about everything. And he wants kelvin to do the same instead of thinking and or assuming everything on his own. And also vier just doesn't let anything that gets in his way take away from his responsibilities and goals which goes back to his strong willed nature. But because a relationship is meant to share that burden and help each other no matter what.
Now Kelvin had soo much pain and suffering in his heart mentally and emotionally and physically he was a shell of a person. And will probably always be reminded of the things he did to vier. His love for vier utterly consumed him and brought out some horrorfic parts of himself. But I think him being with vier while it doesn't erase all of that history. It shows how love true love really is a testament of commitment and forgiveness. Cause Kelvin had nothing to live for after he has lost so much in his life from his mother dying to then be taken away isolated from any family and only to be brought back and be thrown away and hidden in the dark. But Kelvin knows the mistakes he made hes aware and it eats at him. And he's intentional in not making the same mistakes again like in this episode compared to the earlier ep when he so easily chose the company over vier. This time he without hesitation chose Vier when he saw his life in danger, but he isn't repeating that mistake again. And I’m also glad they addressed that Kelvin spent time in the hospital cause that's something he was working on prior to even meeting vier but didn't consistently keep up with it. But now with the correct support system he can start healing himself.
And this line from vier is exactly what their story is "whatever happened yesterday will stay behind as yesterday. tomorrow, is what we have to face together.”
I have to say I thoroughly enjoy this so much the way they presented the flashbacks in the timeline was so enticing. Fortpeat did amazing I mean peat had such a challenging character to portray because there are so many emotions within Kelvin it is sometimes hard to decipher what it is he's thinking or feeling. But he did so amazingly and i just can't be any more proud of him. This character just like the others he's done is so far from him and just channeled kelvin or (rong yujang) which is the novel's character name! he studied this character excellently. And fort being (Huang sheng) some can argue that this character isn't so far from the previous ones he's played. But regardless vier had the charm and certainly at times questionable choices! and from the beginning to the end which was just as conflicting cause you didnt know whether to root for him or not. While for Kelvin it's so easy to write him off as the villain cause of the obvious lol. But they both grew so much from lita and love sea to now and they keep getting better!!!
Tag Game: Misery loves company!
This game is brought to you by Unforgettable Kisses (started by @mewsthumbring here) because apparently we haven't done enough damage with Theory of Love in our kiss post or our #misery loves company posts and we want people to hate us. Actually, it's group therapy. We can cry int he corner together. Everyone is invited to play along. Please tell us if you want to stop being tagged!
Suggested guidelines: share 1 to 3 moments that inflicted emotional damage!
We're sticking with kisses for this round, but you don't have to!
To My Shore This series had no shortage of painful moments, but this kiss left a scar.
Yesterday This was actually the second most painful kiss of the episode. The chin quiver in the first scene was devastating, but couldn't find that one, so this will work. Thank goodness we aren't fully emotionally invested because that was BAD!

I know I already said the signs were there and that Vier should’ve been more observant—that still stands—but you can also tell that Vier is just a lover boy (albeit one with a few questionable traits).
He’s literally a rich heir from a loving home, someone who’s never really had to struggle, probably still on good terms with most of his past lovers because he keeps things honest. After fucking Kelvin—who clearly posed more of a challenge than he was used to—he doubled back on his rules and adjusted them specifically for him, because it was obvious feelings were getting involved. Vier could’ve easily played Kelvin, could’ve let him think they were in love while continuing to fuck around on the side. Instead, as a testament to his character, he defined the relationship clearly, with marriage and an actual future in mind. He was ready to go all the way.
Which is why this betrayal is especially awful, made even worse after witnessing the kidnapping scene in today's episode (4).
I love a red flag as much as the next person, but this? This doesn’t add up. I need Mr. “I like to draw clear boundaries between love, business, and power” to explain himself properly. I need the logical business reason—because without it, this entire series collapses for me. None of this makes sense otherwise.
It’s no wonder Vier can’t fathom it either. Kelvin hasn’t said a single logical thing that helps us understand him. If this were truly just business, why not be upfront? They’re partners in bed and in business so why did he feel like communication wasn’t an option? I need answers immediately.
And lastly, Vier deserves to get his lick back. Kelvin told Lalit that “Vier may love me, but that’s what makes him vulnerable.” I’ll raise him one better: that statement applies just as much to Kelvin himself. Vier deserves to weaponize Kelvin’s obsession with him and he better do it.
