kennit attempting to breed his live-in situationship with the teen boy in his care is almost unbearable to read about, but it’s really fucking funny that he tried so hard to hint that etta should teach wintrow some of her “worldly” skills and she defaulted to combat. WITH KNIVES.

Musing about the Ludlucks during my reread. They had notoriously bad luck with Paragon, and Kennit is famous for his good luck. In a way, it's like he has all of the luck his ancestors lacked.

I didn't find much on the etymology of "Ludluck," but "lud" is related to "lord." Lord-luck. On the other hand, to me it sounds like lead. Leaden luck. Bad luck.

This all fits in with the trilogy's themes of family, blood, and cycles. The cycles of violence he repeats. The cycles of slavery he (inadvertently) breaks.

I wanna make a comic of the first couple of chapters of the ship of magic for some comic practice, so I've been working on drawing some characters until I get the hang of them!

I don't think I ever understood Beloved's driven purposefulness in shifting the wheel of time as well as I do now after meeting Kennit Ludluck. Of course, as Beloved explains to Fitz, events repeat and evil prevails when the wheel of time is not shifted. We see instances of the cycle repeating in Fitz's very own life, e.g. his loneliness as a child and then Dutiful's. But when Etta told Kennit that she's pregnant, although Kennit's first thoughts were of his happy memories with his parents, he then immediately brushed those aside and thought "i will have to hurt my son. Because i have become Igrot he must become Kennit and i will have to hurt him." He doesn't want to. But he feels like it's his destiny, because he's trapped in a cycle and the wheel of time has not yet shifted. There will be no escape for him or his son. And that's why the wheel of time must be shifted from his course, to allow for a better future, a new future, and not just a recycled past.
