31. Look at the country you are currently living in. If they are an official Hetalia character, how do you feel about that character, as well as the country itself?
[Australia] ye, pretty spot on. Being only a minor character, he only had a few appearances, but he’s pretty much how non-Australians (aside from kiwis) see Australia– brash, Steve Irwin-esque, friendly, sociable, bickers with NZ, energetic, and likes animals. Haha, that’s quite Australian to me. Due to his limited amount of appearances though, he doesn’t always exceed any traits beyond that. Australia also struck me as more of a Queenslander archetype, being energetic and a tad bit weird by non-Australian standards, but it’s likely because most non-Australians see Steve Irwin (a Queenslander) to be representative of Australia. How jarring would it be to see APH Australia as a Melbourne art snob who hates Sydney and loves anything hipster! APH Australia likely won’t have much character development or focus in the manga/anime, but that’s fine, we have Australian content creators to fill that in ;)
Australia as a nation is very young and isolated from the rest of the Western world, but manage to always be prideful of their identity. From the poetry and the literature, you can tell that Australia is very in tune with their landscape (you can read any of Banjo Paterson’s poems or look at any Australian impressionism artworks), since most of Australia is still rural. Long story short, the landscape is pretty (minus the sun, screw the skin cancer-giving deadly laser). I like the exploration of Australian identity, stuff like that.
33: What are some of your biggest headcanons?
Nations being born and carved from river silt
ok ok but see this has some real world basis. Many cultures in the world have a humankind or people born from clay story in their mythology (you can see this with Wonder Woman and Nüwa with the clay people) and as nations are literal land masses PLUS they represent a population, welp it makes sense to me :D plus since rivers are the cradles of civilisation due to the fertile silt it produces, (Nile river, yellow river, river Thames, where there is water there is life) it fits that nations are born from there.
34: What is the one thing about the fandom that irks you the most?
When people say lol Hetalia is trash no honey you’re just rude.
Hetalia means so much to a lot of people. The fandom is where we find friends, the source material is where we can write fic, draw art, and hone our creative skills. The source material is a treasure trove of ideas and the characters are so intriguing, and people work so hard on their fics and their fanart. Even if some people are disappointed with how the show handles history and culture they are still free to do their own interpretation and use the show as a springboard. To see people diss Hetalia like that just because they think it’s “cool” and “trendy” to do so is not only immature but disrespectful to everyone who loves the show/fandom.
